A funny, not too ha-ha thing happened last night.

I like to fly my flags. We have an American flag, an Army Freedom flag, and a flag that is designed like an American flag but it has black and white alternating stripes with the exception of one blue stripe and white stars on a black field. The blue stripe is a recognition stripe honoring the police, firemen, etc.

Last night at around 7ish there was a knock on the front glass door. I answered it and still, I reallydo not know how to describe what was in the other side of the door. She was a younger blond haired girl in her late teens or early 20’s who for some reason was doing little hops not too unlike a pee pee dance whilst smiling from ear to ear to ear and one hand pointing at the flag with the blue stripe.
Then she spoke which I instantly recognized as the speech similar to that of a valley girl twinkie.

She giggled a lot then started to make sense and pointed again to the flag and between gasps of air rattled off something like,
The girl: THAT IS A REAL FLAG! THE REAL AMERICAN FLAG! WHERE DID YOU GET IT? “
Then her hand changed position and she placed it over her heart and said, “THAT’S THE FLAG I USED TO SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO!”

Me: “That’s a flag in honor of the police

The girl: Almost teary eyed, “YES, YES I KNOW! ITS THE REAL AMERICAN FLAG! YOU’RE SUCH A WONDERFUL MAN TO FLY THAT FLAG!

Me: “Thank you. You can order one from Amazon.”

The girl: Takes her hand off her heart, gives me a fist bump and off to never never land she ran.

On my block, I knew I might cause a bit of a stir but if it trolls in twinkies like that one I might have to take it down. The funny thing is, the real stars and stripes was flying just 5 ft. from the blue striped one that she somehow believes to be Old Glory.

My wife offed the possibility that maybe she was from some alternate universe. I still contend she was a twinkie that just didn’t make it to be packaged.

I think that we have posted this picture on here before; but here is the front porch with our flags flying in the breeze.

The people who own the farm next to our property out in the country fly the Fireman's flag and the Regular flag on the sides of their driveway all the time. I believe the man is a professional firefighter. On special occasions they put a small flag on every post on their pasture fence that runs along the main highway. It must be a good 600 feet. The flags are up now, since Memorial Day, probably through the 4th of July. At Christmas they string lights. It's nice.

When I was deployed for Desert Shield in 1990,
my 'Chocolate Chip' desert uniform had a velco
Brown American Flag to wear on the left shoulder.

It was hard to get used to the color as I was always
used to Red, White and Blue.

When I deployed in 1991 for Task force Provide Comfort,
I also had a reversed Brown flag I would wear on my right
    shoulder.

The color of our flag can show many different sides.

    ALL are important.

I commend you both on your flag display.

    Here's my all-time favorite American Flag...with 48 Stars!

I had it made for me by a Flagmaker, and I fly it on every US holiday.

    My wife Judy displays it.

Yup, it’s pretty alright, and so is your wife. uh, but I do have to say that I am a bit of a nutcase when it comes to the American Flag. I go ape if I see a flag faded or tattered or flown incorrectly so you can kind of get my drift about the 49th and 50th states not being included. But, that’s me.
I’ve been known to buy flags for people who have let theirs go down the tubes and then collect their old one and dispose of it in the proper form.

I’m still looking for that 57 state American Flag though. No matter what Obama thinks, there really may be only 50 states included in the U.S.A.

Because it just looks more symmetrical, Shirley; with even rows of stars on the Pike and on the Fly. (8 rows on the Pike and 6 rows on the Fly)

The 35 star flag was attractive too, with a 5x7 matrix.

If Alaska and Hawaii are upset, I'm not eliminating them...I'm omitting Idaho and North Dakota instead.

Idaho? Whoops. You just dissed @Yvonne Smith's stomping grounds but I'll try to keep it quiet.

I'm sorry, Yvonne...had I know that Idaho was your State, I would have eliminated another!

I've always liked their Potatoes! ;)

I had this 48-Star American Flag with the Gold Fringe made for me by a Flagmaker.

    My wife displays it.

Beautiful flag, especially with the gold fringe. Why did you choose 48 rather than 50?

Because it represents the contiguous 48 States, which should have been left that way, because with 6 Stars on the Pike and 8 Stars on the Fly, it makes a balanced, sensible matrix!

We have enjoyed life under this beautiful Banner for 47 years, from 1912 to 1959!
