    Many UN member nations are angry with President Trump's decision to pull out of the nuclear agreement with Iran, so this might be an opportune time to pull out of the UN as well!

    The United Nations was founded after the end of World War II, with its intended purpose to avoid future wars through diplomatic negotiations.

    We lost over 30,000 dead in the Korean "Police Action" of 1950-53, with our casualties representing a far disproportionate number among the UN countries involved in fighting the Communists, which never ended in an Armistice, only a prolonged "Cease Fire" which exits to this day.

    Vietnam was another UN failure, which ended as a draw, with over 50,000 Americans dead, with a proportionately small number of our other UN "partners" suffering losses.

    So what happened to the UN's indended purpose?

    Before having our hands tied by a worldwide "committee", America took care of international problems on its own, without having to drag around the dead weight of an international body.

    Let's exit the United Nations and get back to America First!

    That would be a truly courageous thing to do, and one that would benefit us greatly.

    No, let's don't. We created the situation whereby we entered the Korean Police Action while the Russian Ambassador was back in Russia consulting his government. Truman called it a Policed Action to keep from inflaming the Russian government. Any loses in South Korea was our own fault. In Viet Nam, we, the United States of America, created the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which allowed us to say the North Vietnam government attacked our ships with their patrol boats. Our hands are not clean. It is true today as it was when the United Nations was formed, it is better to talk than to go to war if that is possible. What happened in South Korea and VietNam is not the fault of United Nations but our own manipulation.

    That is a powerful reply Mr. Boggs. It's possible that I don't have the depth of your insight...

    Does anyone have examples of things that the UN has done that has benefited the US?

    @Shirley Martin
    If you consider added tax burden a benefit, then yes. UN spends absurdly high amounts of funds enriching nothing and no one but itself. A past UN P.M. promoted his son to a high position, the son then proceeded to embezzle an estimated $200 million. Did he go to jail? No. Questioned whether he would resign, the father said, "HELL NO!".

    John Birch Society encouraged strongly, dropping out of the UN. Our Government proceeded to make certain the public was made aware that John Birch Society was a highly subversive group intending to eventually damage our government and country.

    Okay, let's do it, let's get out of the United Nations. You're right, what have they ever done for us except cost us money. Back when I thought it a good idea, that was then, this is now. So let's get out out and save all that money. Let's see, over the years the cost of belonging to the UN probably cost each of us about two bits. And what have hey done for us lately? Nate, nothing that I can see. How do we go about it? Write our congressman? Maybe write the President a letter telling him to get os out of this costly mess. They just create problems for us. Some of you who have thought of it more may have a better idea. Let's get the ball rolling. What will we gain? Let me count the ways.
