"Mike Hale's silver Ford Mustang being devoured by the ravenous Pele, Hawaii's volcano goddess, and her unstoppable crush of lava. Yet, if you look closely in that video, you'll see something else, specifically in the foreground that meets its fiery end. That would be the R2-D2 mailbox his daughter made for him one Christmas."
I was thinking that too @Von Jones ...but it's really horribly insidious watching that burning ember crawling towards the homes... Wonder why no-one moved the car...
Probably not enough time or afraid they couldn't move it away fast enough or even nowhere to drive it to safely. Too many reasons.
I was just looking at that video and wondering the same thing, @Holly Saunders ! The lava is slow moving, and they were able to stand there and film the car being demolished by it, so why on earth didn’t they move the car before the lava got there ? If it were already broken down, it should not have just been sitting out by the mailbox, it looks like they parked it there and then just left it to be ruined while they took the picture. This eruption has been going on for several days now, so people have had time to move things and prepare, it is not like a forest fire that just sweeps down suddenly with a wind change and burns things up.
I don't know why they didn't move the car. Perhaps it belonged to some haole that wasn't on the island, and his/her neighbors weren't fond of them. Maybe their just Hawaiians being lazy. The eruptions have move into an explosive phase now, and huge boulders are being flung for miles. I understand the Canary Islands are rumbling now, too, so the Atlantic side of the world may have some disruptions coming.
@Von Jones Wondered that myself. Even if it was "set-up", a scrapped car, sufficient gasoline vapor should still have been present to explode. So.......???? Frank
Short answer... no, unless it is the make believe world of hollywood, where they explode all the time.
