I just bought some plants on our way home from a trip to the lake resort. That is in the town of Tagaytay where the weather is cool and flowering plants abound. Not exactly cheap but they look pretty so I bought some. However, when we arrived home in the afternoon, we forgot to water it. On the next morning, 2 plants were transplanted into plastic pots and 1 was left in the soft black plastic. In the afternoon, we noticed one of the plants had withered leaves. And it is dying. We may be good with crops and vegetables but really has a bad hand with decorative plants. Here's the pic of that wilted plant that until now we still do not know the name -
That looks like a Marigold to me, @Corie Henson . The other one may still come back if you soak it good. It may have just dried out too much in the planting container. I have gotten plants that looked much worse than this from Lowe's (in their closeout bin), and with a little water and a day or so, they will perk right back up. Those should go to seed after they bloom, and if you save the seeds, you can sprout a bunch more of them. Bugs do not like the smell of Marigolds, and will stay away from anything that you plant the marigolds next to.
Thanks for the identification. I have no idea and my husband thinks it is cosmos although I know that he is not good with ornamental plants, hahahaaah. The good one is still good and growing. Fortunately, the dying one is saved and is now recovering beautifully. What we did was to spray with water for about a minute and then repeated the spraying after an hour. On the next day, the spraying was done 4 times, two in the morning and 2 in the later afternoon. We also placed it under a shaded area so it will not be directly hit by the sun's rays. Now, if you say bugs abhor Marigolds then that would be good because our backyard have lots of flying pests.
Cosmos is also a beautiful flowering plant, and I love them ! They will get 2-3 feet tall, and have blossoms in pink, laender, and several other colors. As far as I know they have no special properties to keep away bugs like the marigolds do. They look more like a daisy., and are very pretty. Zinnias are similar to marigolds, and also good to deter bugs, and so are most mint plants.
