With the holiday's coming up, I have informed all my children that I want Amazon Gift cards!!

In the past they have given me other cards that I am not interested in!! Cards that keep the money that is not used up and places that I do not wish to buy from or restaurants that I do not like!!

With Amazon Cards, you enter them into your account and get every penny that they are worth..If you buy an item for less than what the card is for, your remaining amount is credited to your account to be used on the next purchase!! bananapowerslide.gif

I totally agree with this ! There is nothing that I would rather have than an Amazon gift card. You can use them for so many different items, and like you mentioned, @Ken N Louis , the balance stays on the card until you have used it all.
I usually do online surveys because many of those offer Amazon gift cards, and even when they are only the $5 ones, they always come in SO handy for something that I need (or want).
Amazon has so many good sale prices on everything as well; so you just can't find a place where the card buys so many items as you can with Amazon.

I used to buy my nieces Visa Gift Cards, then I realized that usually at least $5 of the total was used up in fees, which is ridiculous. I stopped giving those, and would either give an actual gift, or iTunes cards, since they all had iPhones at the time.

I like Amazon, but sometimes the shipping charges get to be a bit much. I think it would be a really great deal to get Amazon gift cards if a person had Prime, though, since that would eliminate the shipping charges.

I do a large part of my shopping on Amazon.com since I live in a small town seventy miles from the nearest department store, unless you count a small Walmart thirty miles away, and because I can usually find a better price on Walmart anyhow. Sometimes when I'm in Bangor, I'll go to the bookstore while my wife is shopping for other stuff but if I find anything that I want to buy, I'll jot down the ISBN and buy it on Amazon.com later.

I often do that with the ISBNs, as well, @Ken Anderson, because if I'm buying books, I tend to purchase them on Amazon. I bought a few at the dollar store the other day, but lately I've been borrowing or e-borrowing most of my books from the library.

Still, it's sad that the bookstores are closing.

@Diane Lane ..I have yet to pay for the "Prime"..I usually purchase items over $35 and they are free shipping, I can wait for the 3 to 5 day ship times..Also a lot of the items that I buy are not fulfilled by Amazon and those vendor's may have free shipping. 001.gif

I love bookstores, especially the kind with reading spots, where a person can sit and peruse a book before buying. There's nothing worse than buying a book and being disappointed. I was shocked when I went to the library the other day and found the doors locked. It didn't open until 1pm that day for some reason, which is ridiculous, in my opinion. I'm sure the county could cut back elsewhere, and leave the libraries open during regular business hours. That wasn't a Saturday, it was a Friday. It seems plenty here use the library, but I guess they don't mind, and work around the limited hours. I didn't think to check first, because I had no idea the hours were limited. Fortunately, I was able to run other errands, then stop back by there on my way home.

There are no bookstores close by, otherwise I'd be spending more time there, but unfortunately, my budget doesn't permit paying full price for anything these days, so I probably wouldn't be much help in keeping them in business.

I used to get the 2 oldest grandsons itunes cards but now they too want Amazon cards. The 12 yr old has a bday in December also, so he will have quite a nice amount, especially if he asks for that from the other relatives also. :)

The 3 youngest I buy some toy that is on their amazon wish list and its shipped free, so my Christmas shopping is very easy.

  11. I bought a Target gift card a couple of years ago, had to pay extra for the card plus recipient had to pay to activate it.
It was the only time I'd purchased a store gift card that worked that way.

:oops:Very good idea for you can be happy with gifts that you can use and no one wastes time and money when they know exactly what makes you happy! Birthdays and anniversaries or any gifting time you'll have what you want when your loved ones knows too!:)

I know I'm tardy to the party with answering this thread, but I wasn't here in November. :) I so very strongly agree with this... I love getting Amazon cards as gifts! I can find anything there... and I do mean anything. I've bought everything from food to Pepto Bismol to household cleaners :D and everything in between.

I've mentioned this to people who have said they don't use Amazon because they don't "buy books or music." No concept of what Amazon is... I say I've bought chocolate there... and clothing. And groceries. And music boxes. And hundreds of household items. And... well, yeah, everything! :)

Amazon's customer service is *exceptional.* I've never seen anything like it. Just last Christmas I bought something from a seller that was supposed to be new but the box came (it was jewelry) with a girl's first name written on the box with marker. Contacted Amazon that it was obviously not a new item, but used, even though the product was fine... they said they'd certainly be talking to the seller about that, and that I should either toss the item, give it to someone as a gift, or enjoy it myself, but there was no need to return it, and my money was refunded within *hours.* (For the record, I contacted them to let them know the seller was selling used items as new... NOT to get a refund because the jewelry was fine!)

Excellent customer service! I wasn't expecting that because the unscrupulous could take such advantage... maybe all items aren't like that... I've had just a tiny few problems in the 14 years I've been there.

We have seldom had any problems with Amazon products either, and the few times there was a problem, they either replaced. The item or refunded the purchase price, just like they did with you, @Mari North .
Like you mentioned, the Amazon cards are just good for SO many different things that you can always use them, unlike a gift card that was only good for a restaurant or even a particular store, where you might never use the gift card.
I think that if you are getting (or making) a special gift for someone, and you know that they will like it, then that is a beautiful idea. However, many times, we are just not sure what to give a person, or what they would even like, and in that case, then a usuable gift card seems like the perfect option. If you know where the person shops, then that is usually a safe plan for the gift card, as well.
