Maine had a wind storm a couple of days ago that put many parts of the state in the dark, including Bangor and Portland. Our power was out for a few hours the day before yesterday, but Bangor is still dark and they're saying it might be a couple more days before power is restored. There are some reports that a part of the problem has to do with a large number of Maine's telephone utility trucks being down South helping with power outages in other states.

This is the picture of one of our main commuting roads...and is also the road I get on to go to my daughter's home that flooded last year. :(

Oh Dear Lord...that's a proper flood... I hope it doesn't get any worse. Might sound like a stupid question, but is there a reason why your area floods so often Babs?

Actually, until the last couple of years we did not have a flood problem here in our City or in the smaller towns around us. But with changing weather patterns everywhere now, we and the towns around us are starting to experience flooding in areas where there never was any before. Yesterday's in just a matter of about 3 hours we received about 7 inches of rain around the area I live in. There was no warning of this kind of rain coming yesterday until it was clear that was what was happening. From what I heard on the News last night there was no major flooding of homes this time.

Our City is definitely going to have to find ways to improve drainage here. Our City has grown so much that the original drainage systems are not adequate for this growth now. The weather will keep on changing and the rain will keep on increasing, etc. and our City is going to have to improve our drainage systems to keep up with the increased rain.

Not sure how my day will be yet. I have been busy with a extensive data entry project I am working on for a very good friend.
Today will work on all my plants I brought in two weeks ago, due to cooler temperatures still to come- like tomorrow. The high tomorrow is 47 and 70
to 80 percent rain. I have to go see the periodontist, and trying real hard not to be bummed out.I already have a good idea what he will say, and well he can say whatever he wants- does not change the fact- there is not money for that!
Regardless of how my day or week goes- chances are it will still be good compared to many others :)

This has been a wonderful day here ! It is around 70 , cloudy, but still nice. We have had all of the doors and some windows open since early this morning, and have been airing out the house after the cold and wet winter weather we have been getting this year.
Bobby is still helping his friend work on the house project that they have been working on since before Christmas, and he says it will probably be the end of the month before they are done with it.
I have been a busy housewife today.
All of the laundry, vacuuming, and basic housework is done, and bed is made with clean sheets. I made fresh banana bread with whole wheat flour, and also a loaf of whole wheat bread is rising in the bread machine. It has flax, chia, and sunflower seeds in it, as well as some almond flour, protein powder, and almond meal.
I followed the recipe for whole wheat bread for the bread machine, but substituted the seeds and almond meal for some of the flour.
So far it seems to be rising like it is supposed to, and hopefully it will turn out okay.
I made a pot of veggie bean soup and it is in the crock pot cooking for dinner to go with the fresh bread.
Now, I am going to kick back and relax while the bread and soup is cooking.
@Bobby Cole is back home again, and having his fresh coffee and eating his second piece of banana bread .

Sounds like you have had a very productive day @Yvonne Smith. :)

The sun is out over here and we are expected to see a high of 79 degrees today. It's my Honey's day off and he's spending most of it outside clearing some of Winter's debris off the lawn and his plants, etc.

    Glad you're having a good day. :)

Today I was going to go to an estate sell across town but decided to go to the BMV early and get my sticker and title for my Jeep. Same location but different offices both were crowded. I wanted to pay with my debit card for the sticker and the clerk said. "You'll be charged $1.95." I said never mind I'll pay cash and pulled out my babysitting money. Next door I was number 26 it was around 11:30 and the place closes at 1:30. It was standing room only and people just kept coming. Now get this, when my number was called I handed the clerk the release of lien from the bank. She punched everything in and then said, "That will be $16.00." Well, I just gave up all my babysitting money for the sticker and all I had was a few dollars. "Do you take debit cards?" ."Yes, but it will cost you 48 cents." I said, "That's better than $1.95 they wanted next door.":D She agreed.

So now I'm back home and my sister gives me a letter regarding her Texas taxes. I was like . I was relieved once she told me it was for my information only ... but I had to report to her that she needs to contact Texas Comptroller because I didn't know anything about her business to call myself.

I should have went to the estate sale . I'm sure I would have found something that would uplift my morning.

Bummer. I haven't heard of folks changing for debit card use. Sometimes they do charge for credit cards since the cards charge for the service. Maybe debit cards are doing that some places now, but we haven't seen it here.

I think it is because of the logo on the debit card or checking card as some call it. Whether it's Visa, Discover, MC and the fee for use is passed on to the consumer. I've never had a debit card without a logo on it. If I was able to do this online it probably would have been more.

Having run a retail business, I know that the retailer pays a fee whenever they accept a credit card. Some charge more than others, which is why a lot of businesses won't take Discover Cards. Very few of them will pass that on to the consumer directly, but it's built into the cost of whatever you buy. Rather than charing the consumer for the fee that they pay, what some businesses will do is to offer cash discounts, which is the same thing but it's a more marketing-friendly approach.

Here many smaller stores won't accept payment using a debit card if the total purchase is less than £5.00...larger stores will, but not many of the smaller shops...

Same here purchases in small establishments want customers to spend any where from $5 to $10 on debit cards. That's acceptable to me but fees like ATMs, fees like what I experienced today is just hard to accept with a smile.

Yes I agree @Von Jones , most of our ATM's are free but again in petrol garages, remote areas or in small stores, they charge quite significantly for withdrawals, I just refuse to use them unless I have absolutely no option..
