Hollyweird and the news media both have a long history of service to the government as a disseminator of propaganda and disinformation, plus the former seems to have an OCD-like need to deploy 'poetic license' with abandon at every opportunity. As for the press, while it is not above occasionally biting the hand that feeds it (i.e. Watergate), for the most part it functions much the same as TASS does for the Kremlin. Has everyone forgotten going to the movies long ago and watching those newsreels comprised of a mix of truths, half-truths, and outright lies? Those 'factual' newsreels were the end result of a close collaboration between government, press, and Hollyweird.

If Nixon had been a Democrat, I doubt we'd have heard of Watergate.

I don't know...seems like the press had quite the long run with Clinton's new use for a cigar, and the usual calls for impeachment. A quick google search finds much else:

Though it may break some hearts, and cause bitter disappointment, I doubt the Republicans can lay claim to a monopoly on stupidity. But then I'm an independent, so take my opinion with a big grain of salt.

Since he was actually impeached, they could hardly ignore that one.

Really? I don't recall that it ever went anywhere, but then I don't keep up with the 'As Washington Turns' soap opera. I always thought the impeachment effort petered out, and Nixon was the only one that actually got the axe. Well, like I said, I don't keep up with it. So I learned something new.

Impeachment takes place when the House of Representatives votes to impeach. That was done. Impeachment does not necessarily mean removal from office. It's like being indicted in a criminal case. After the House impeaches, it is up to the Senate to decide on removal. In the case of Bill Clinton, he was impeached but he was not removed from office.

Okay, so what is the actual removal from office called? Guess I'm confusing apple with oranges. Nixon was impeached, then kicked out of office...what's the kicked outta office part called?

Nixon was neither impeached or kicked out of office. He resigned amidst a scandal. There were moves in the House to impeach him but he resigned before they came to a vote. It is believed that the House would have voted to impeach. Only two US presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson in 1868, and Bill Clinton in 1998. No US president has ever been removed through the impeachment process.

The House votes to impeach, with can be compared to an indictment. In order for him or her to be removed, the Senate must vote to convict.

Strange how the wrong info gets stuck in the head. I always thought Nixon was forced out of office via impeachment. Thanks for telling me.

Well as my third link shows:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_political_scandals_in_the_United_States
....Democrats and Republicans have a lot in common. Saying one is any better than the other is like saying "John Wayne Gacy was a nice serial killer, not like that awful Ted Bundy!". Killers are killers, crooks are crooks. Only politician I know of that didn't get caught with his pants upzipped, taking bribes, or doing something nefarious was Carter, and that could just be because he was too smart to get caught.

I disagree @Shirley Martin about Hillarygate being a bigger deal than Watergate. I can't even remember what Hillerygate was or why the term was coined. Watergate I do. What was Hillarrygate all about? Asleep at the whweel using off duty hours or what?

We've established that we've got Fake News...now are we suggesting that we've got Fake History?

    News becomes History.

History is full of fake thing some get corrected and some not Vietnam war was started when a US ship was attacked 30 years later found out it was a lie. Weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after killing millions it was a lie. Syria gassed its own people it now has been three times the first two have been proven it was not Syrian but the terrorists . The third time US attacking again with out proof. The One American News sent in a reporter who interview the people some very close to where it was to happen and they said nothing happened they also interview the doctors in the hospital which the white helmets took their patients and the doctors said there was no gas attack they just washed dust off persons brought in by the white helmets while they were filming. There is a lot of games being played and they know when the control the media you will not know the difference. One American news can be found on youtube
