An article I received today revealed with stunning believability some facts I have never heard or seen before. When built, it is easily documentable that the World Trade Center, including the twin towers, contained miles of piping, steam-heat and such, insulated with Asbestos! Tons of it. Since the collapse of the towers, which we all have seen, with the enormous clouds of dust and debris spreading outwards from the site, hundreds of cases of asbestos-linkable serious disease in excess of that expected, have been recorded in folks who lived/live in the WTC vicinity.

It is explained that, back when Asbestos was becoming widely-known as a dangerous material (whether you believe that fact or not), the owners of the WTC quietly sold the property for pennies on the dollar, as estimates to "clean-up" the property ranged into the billions of dollars, more than the assessed value. The new owners insured the property for an amount said to be in the billions.

The property is gone, maybe enormous payouts were made, I've never heard much about it, people may or may not have been sickened, something like 3,000 deaths resulted, many first-responders, and I wonder if any here have heard anything of this allegation?

The builders stopped using asbestos during construction, due to impending government regulations. However, about 400 tons were used.

One prominent politician thinks asbestos would have prevented the collapse of the towers...

A most interesting thought! Thank you for it. That heat was more responsible than any other single factor for the collapses has been mentioned often. I've thought about that many times.............

That the replacement material for asbestos failed miserably, is fairly well established. Asbestos fire proofing was not used above the 38th floor in tower one and not all in the other tower. In addition, there was a large fire in tower 1, in 1975, which spread through elevator and ventilator shafts, from the 9th to 19th floors. The asbestos was credited for containing that fire.

The replacement material was tested by the NIST post 9-11 and found to be deficient. The NIST did comment that the possibility existed that asbestos would have performed better, but could not thoroughly test that hypothesis... as that type no longer existed.

There really is no definitive way to 100% prove or disprove asbestos' effectiveness in this case, until the multiverse is discovered, imo. It likely would have delayed a collapse til a point where more could have been evacuated, although the folks above the impact areas, didn't stand a chance.

EDIT: The replacement fire retardant also has adhesion problems with the material falling off AND not always being replace in a timely manner. NIST stated the buildings might not have collapsed if the fireproofing had not become dislodged.
