Yesterday evening, my wife said she felt "not quite right". This phrase we use often jokingly in referring to some demented individual. Morning, we both arose seemingly OK, but as a few hours went by, she said she might have flu-like symptoms: headache, dry cough, feeling weak, thermometer confirmed it: about one degree above normal. She spent most of today confined to her recliner, reading off temperatures like the Weather Channel!

She took a few Ibuprofens, as the day wore on, me replacing overhead wiring in my shop, she sitting it out in the chair, her temperature jumped up and down, above 98.6 all day, but as high as 101.8 this evening. I told her that by tomorrow, if improvement was not evident, we were going to Doctor, or ER.

Tonight, she just went to bed, 20 minutes ago. I am very worried about her. She quit the G. D. cigarettes about 15 years ago, has never had chest pain, but experienced an obvious T.I.A. over a year ago. Her older sister had a stroke a year ago, and her life is now changed forever.

By tomorrow, the tale will be told. Improved, lower fever, or seek help. What would YOU do? What should I do?

From my previous medical experience and from working for a company that took care of Senior's health, if she's not better, get medical help. What she has may not be the flu, but getting the Senior Flu Shot doesn't guarantee the person they won't get the flu, it's just if they do, it won't be as bad as without the shot.

We, wife and I, really watch getting around people this time of year, because tons of people go out in public with a bad cold or even the flu. We only go to church on Christmas Eve, due to how many folks go to church sick. Although, at times it's hard to tell if the person has the flu or an allergy. A high temperature would be a good clue of flu symptoms. If not better, get her to a doctor.

There's been quite a few deaths from the flu in California, especially in my daughter's area.

I didn't get the flu shot so I'm going to be extra careful around my 14 yr old grandson and any place I go with him.

At home I keep to myself so not exposed to much but there I'll be going to his basketball game, the movie and just the fact that he's a kid in school.

See a dr @Frank Sanoica if she's worse today...this is a bad flu year, plus it could be something else
    Brewing.

My ex is in the hospital with pneumonia.

It looks like this bad strain of the flu is pretty rampant everywhere right now, and getting your wife to the doctor’s office sounds like the best thing to do at this point. If there were not so many bad reports, then waiting might be okay; but people everywhere are hospitalized and some are dying from this epidemic.
The other day, @Lon Tanner was saying that his whole senior living complex is shut down, which is in California, and I was just reading my north Idaho news, and the whole senior restorium in Bonners Ferry is also shut down and everyone confined to their rooms.
I haven’t heard about senior complexes here; but when we went to the fitness center, they had posted notices about getting to the hospital if you felt sick.
This seems to be pretty a widespread outbreak.
Prayers for you and your wife, @Frank Sanoica , and keep us posted about how she is doing.

I thought he posted it here, too; but apparently it was just on the other forum. He said they are all confined to their rooms and meals are being brought right to each room to keep people isolated so they don’t spread it worse than it already is.
Bobby was telling me about some 21 year old body builder that was fine one day, and two days later, dead in the hospital, from this flu, so it is not just elderly people who are dying with this virus.

The same thing is happening over here with the Aussie flu now . A specialist said that this is a much worse strain than the Asian flu which killed over 300,00 worldwide. Hospitals here have shut their doors to visitors. ..

It's a very caring thing for Lon's place to do because all the residents are elderly and very vulnerable so if they keep people separated they're less likely to contract the flu ...poor Lon tho' he's only just moved in and was getting used to the interaction with other folks and the fabulous facilities... but better alone in your room than sick with a fatal flu...

@Frank Sanoica , I sincerely hope your wife doesn't have the flu, do keep us updated if you can

Yes, Chrissy, it is getting scary. California, along with Florida and some other states are having a real problem with people and the flu. Wife and I are definitely glad we got our shot. Didn't cost us anything with Medicare B.........nothing.

Hopefully I'll keep away from the flu until feb. think my appt is the 12th.

Was going to ask dr my last appt but forgot about it. :(

In the 14 years I've lived in Fresno I've not had the flu once...got the shot one year when I volunteered.

Did have Bronchitis last year though and that was bad enough.

My doctor told me that this year's flu shot guards against, I think she said, four different strains of the flu but has given only about 50% protection from the flu. Of course, that would be regional because it all depends on which strains are floating around your neighborhood, and which you have been vaccinated against.

I have had a flu shot twice and have had the flu once. The first time I got a flu shot, I was sick for about four days afterwards. I felt miserable, although when I compare it to the time that I actually had the flu, the flu was a whole lot worse. But when I add the chance that I'll get sick from the vaccination itself with the fact that there is still a 50% chance that I'll get the flu anyhow, I decided against it.

When I got my flu shot that one time, I felt absolutely nothing. It was like I didn't even get the shot.

I have never had a flu shot, but I very seldom get sick. It seems like this is a particularly vicious strain of flu virus, so we will probably try to stay away from places where infected people might be, as much as possible, and just try to keep our immune systems working at its best performance.
I upped my intake of vitamin C, D3, and iodine, and am going to try even harder to cut out the inflammatory/acidic foods from my diet, at least for a while .
I have kind of let it slide in this cold weather and the holiday season ahead of that, so now I need to get back with the program again.
I do NOT want to get sick !
