I'm not one who grew up with hobbies or any interests in things. Come to think of it I never really had any direction in life either and now that i'm that much older. I truly don't know what to do with myself or my time. What does everyone else do to pass the time away and to avoid being bored all the time? I mean apart from house work and cooking what else is there to do? Any ideas are very much welcomed.

I never get bored. Posting here is one thing which you have done. Browsing other internet sites, googleing things that interest you. planting a garden, visiting friends you haven't seen in a while are a few things that come to mind.

What about volunteering somewhere @Anna Peters , are you physically fit enough to do that?...you can choose just how many hours you're willing to give of your time, and there's so many different choices of things you can help with. I don't know where you are, but just google volunteer opportunities in your area..

    Let me see.

Going for a daily walk, photography, visiting formal gardens, playing chess, working on my website, photo manipulation.

Sheldon, I'm new to the States and am finding it hard to make friends, firstly I'm very shy in nature and secondly the people in my area are very clicky and don't much care for outsiders. All my family and friends are back home in Australia.

Holly, Thanks for the suggestion. I guess Volunteering would be a good option as it would get me out of my comfort zone and get me talking to people. The only problem is i'm going to have to find something whereby i'm not on my feet all day as i have just been diagnosed with having osteoarthritis in the knees

Oooh there's plenty of opportunities to volunteer doing a sitting down job, and as you say it would get you out meeting other people..even if it was only a few hours a week. Also it gives you and the o/h something different to chat about as well...and of course the main thing is that you're giving your free time for a good cause.

I think you'd enjoy it.. The best part of volunteering as well is that you can choose a job that suits your personality and any skills you might have...so you never need to be concerned about being out of your depth as you might in a paid position..

Now, from seeing a post you done to another Thread, that you are married, what do you and your husband do together? Does your husband have any hobbies and/or interests that you'd be a part of?

We always seem to be busy all day long, with one thing or another, and I look forwards to the evening when all is quiet, and I can read a novel, learn about something new on youtube, or just relax and knit.
Both my husband (known to us here as Bobbby Cole) and myself go to the fitness center every day that we can go. He works out with weights, and I swim and do water exercises. I LOVE swimming, and always feel so good afterwards......all those endorphins, I guess. We have a Medicare Advantage that includes a fitness membership, and that makes it a lot more affordable for us to go there.
Except for the cold part of the year, we usually work outside in the yard doing something, and Bobby loves making things out in his shop.
We go for a walk together just about every day, too. We don’t have much money; so we seldom do things that cost, although we go out for lunch sometimes.
One thing that I really love, is that so much information is available on the internet now, and just anything that comes to mind, a person can look up and research about; so this is also something that I spend time doing.
I belong to several forums that I enjoy, as well as facebook groups, plus I do online surveys to earn a little spending money. There are always the weekly trips for groceries and sometimes, to the thrift store.
I guess every day is different; but we never just sit around and feel bored.
Also, @Anna Peters , I have arthritis in my knees, too, and doing the water exercises has really helped me to have more mobility with my knees.

I feel like I don't have enough time in a day to do what I'd like to do, and weeks are over before I'm ready for them to be. Of course, I sleep through a lot of it but still.

It's often the case with people who are thought to be unfriendly that they are simply shy or uncomfortable imposing themselves on newcomers. It differs somewhat from one part of the country to another but in some parts of the country, people value the privacy of their neighbors so much that they might seem unfriendly. Or maybe they're just unfriendly. That happens too.

Cody, My husband is an all round time fix-it guy and helikes to make all sorts of things and repairs. So far we have renovated our home from gut to finish. he also has an online radio station which he's working on and is now in search of a gutted travel trailor so as to work on so we can travel around the U.S in in the future, but that job may take a while.

It's never too late to learn a craft or hobby. Knitting, crochet, needle work, sewing.
