    http://blog.arthritis.org/living-with-arthritis/weather-arthritis-pain/

This is what I go through with my arthritis. I am fine until the weather starts playing its "change" game just as described in this article.

This past Sunday our weather did a drastic change with wind, rain, and drastic temperature droppings. By late afternoon my back and hip areas were so stiff and painful that I could hardly move...and the pain was even radiating down my legs too. I hardly slept Sunday night because I couldn't turn like I usually do and Monday was pretty much the same. I made myself move and try to do my regular things around our home...in between using the heating pad, taking tylenol, and doing gentle stretches to try to loosen the stiffness.

This morning is a little better but not by much. I do not want to have to go get a prescription drug for this pain and for the past few years I have been able to just get through it until it passes. But Sunday's pain was almost more than I could stand and it's not much better today. From what the weatherman has said this morning our weather here will keep dropping every night until we end up with frost probably on Sunday.

For those who also have arthritis I have a question. Does your arthritis cause you daily pain or is yours affected only by weather "changes" like mine...or a combination, etc?

I'm not even sure I have arthritis per say, I do have osteoarthritis in my lower back and tendinitis in my left shoulder but haven't noticed weather affecting it.

Osteoarthritis is a form of arthritis and tendinitis is a part of arthritis that affects tendons.

My previous medical background and online research.

Yes, I know that Cody. I was just saying that I really don't have arthritis elsewhere like my hands etc.

Weather change affects both of us, myself more than my wife. Whether it's incoming rain or a cold front, I will know. Not really bad pain, but more the achy/nagging type of pain. I now get it in my hip, basically because my hip replacement was 12 years ago. I had also get that pain in both shoulders. Seems like either osteoarthritis or regular arthritis has set in to both shoulders since the surgeries I've had.

Currently I'm take a 800mg ibuprofen daily. My VA doctor tells me that that won't hurt me. It sure does take away that achy/nagging pain.

Had better add, that there are some mornings I get up with a little lower back pain. Don't think that has anything to do with weather, but with the position I sleep.

Boy, I wish I had a family member that was a doctor.

Right now, yes my shoulder and arm pain is every day.

My back is affected by physical activity and not weather.

Why would having a dr in your family help your arthritis?

My brother in law is a dr and he has arthritis also. Mostly in his ankles or knees. He's only about 51 I think. My sister is 51 and theyre close in age.

Babs, yesterday morning I restarted taking Swanson Joint Care w/Glucosamine, MSM & Chondroitin. Right now, one tablet daily. I think it also helps lower my bg number.

We have some cold temps coming in. This AM it was 62, but high will be 80. Next couple of days the high will drop to 70 with overnight low of 48.

We aren't fans of cold weather, but already know how cold it gets in Colorado and Wyoming. Like the old saying goes, "have to take the good with the bad". Good, meaning less crime, less people, more things for us to do that we like doing. Bad, meaning...........winter months.

Ok, look at it this way, having a doctor, a lawyer, a cop and perhaps a few other "needed" careers in a family isn't a bad idea. Why? Call them for advice.

Ok, yes, I call my BIL a lot, lol.

No cops in my family but we do have 4 dentists, 2 pharmacists, a psychiatric nurse, a professor and my baby sister has a PhD in drug research.

No lawyers but we have hopes for my oldest grandson. :)

There you go! Someone goes into law enforcement, another becomes a lawyer and.........you've got it made. If I had a family like that, I wouldn't think twice about calling for advice. Beats the heck out of paying for advice all the time.

Once the weather stablizes my pain will go away...usually it takes just a few days for this and I just grin and bear it until the weather does this. Last year I noticed in Winter though I was having many more days of pain and stiffness than ever before and it was harder to just grin and bear it until it passed. Now our colder weather is just starting and this pain and stiffness is the worst it ever has been. (I think I could use some of that medicinal marijuana about now. ;)) :p I really don't want to have to take any prescription for this...or anything full time either. But if this continues I am going to have to try some alternatives to what I have been doing so far.

I think I will start off by trying some tumeric capsules that someone mentioned in another posting under Health and Wellness. I would much rather find a natural way to help me than chemical.

I do have arthritis, knees, hands, back neck. The weather does affect this for me. I do fine most of the time, but when I do not, i take Aleve
and am good to go, all day long. My neck is a big problem from time to time. I have one of those neck buddy thingys.. put it in the microwave
for about 1 minute, wrap around the neck, and that helps a lot!
There was a recent study on arthritis and affects of weather- science claimed we are full of poo, that the weather does not affect our aches and pains.
Obviously, must have been very young scientists... I do not put a lot of faith in some of this research we read about.:p
