@Ina I. Wonder , no I cook it all at the same time. The cheese needs no cooking, it just gets added to the soup at the last minute and it melts right into it..

I fry off a small chopped onion until it's just translucent in a tiny spray of groundnut oil ...add a clove of garlic..but that's optional... I cook the broccoli the normal way...in just plain water because the cheese is so rich you don't need to cook it in veggie stock... then I add the the boiling water... and cook for a few minutes then add the chopped broccoli florets... I don't use the stalks... and tip a can of Butter beans in..and cook off for 15 minutes..and it's done. As soon as I turn the light out under the pot I crumble up about a 100grams of Stilton into it..

It can be very rich..so sometimes I have to add a little more boiling water to it to thin it and weaken it a little bit..

BTW...you can also add celery or leek or potato to it right at the beginning of cooking. ...but I find that it's enough just the onion broccoli, beans and Stilton cheese..

serve it with a chunk of crusty bread... and you've got a good warming filling supper...

@Ina I. Wonder I often put shrimp in my chicken and sausage gumbo, along with okra and a can of rotel tomatoes. I use both smoked sausage and fresh chicken sausage with jalapeno. I can not eat the smoked sausage only the chicken sausage...but gumbo would not have the best flavor without smoked sausage to me and my husband eats that one. :)

I want to make a seafood gumbo with shrimp, crawfish, crab meat, fish, and okra and rotel tomatoes. Some people put oysters...but I do not like that flavor in a gumbo. :)

That sound interesting @Holly Saunders. I’ll have to try it. I never heard of putting broccoli, beans, and cheese together, but as I like all three ingredients I’m going to give it a try. Some of my favorite foods started out with me doubting that I’d find them tasty. I’ll have to use blue cheese unless I can find Stilton cheese in the cheese section of the new Krogers or HEB stores that just opened in the last six months.

@Babs Hunt , I’ve never tried the chicken sausage. It just might be the way into Bobert’s tummy, as he likes chicken any way it can be cooked. When he first moved in with me, I would cook for myself, and he did the same. Now we trade off, he cooks every other day and I do the same. At least now we share our meals.

I feel as if I’m finally rubbing off on him because when he moved in he would only eat TV dinners or take out. Now I take him out to eat about once a month, and we only buy a couple TV dinners at a time instead of a couple dozen.
    :)

Blue cheese will be fine as an alternative @Ina I. Wonder ..as long as it's crumbly and not soft and creamy .. but Stilton is the classic for this soup... I'm sure you'll love it..

@Holly Saunders , I found Stilton cheese today at my local “super” Kroger’s store. It was $17.99 a pound. What does it go for in your part of the world?

Today is our last cooler day for at least another 10 days, starting tomorrow temps will be back in the 80's so I may buy the cauliflower crust pizza Ive been wanting to try and use my oven today.

Ive seen them at Trader Joe's and Safeway but yesterday when I was at TJs they were out, will try Safeway today....they're more expensive there though by a few dollars.

My Honey says it's going to be my famous oven burgers and fries today. And if that is what the man is hungry for...I will be glad to make them for him. :)

I needed to go shopping today, but the shops close at 4pm...and I can't drive far at the moment because I have rotator cuff tendinitis..and hubs didn't get home from work until 4am this morning so he was asleep until just a little while ago ( it's almost 3.30 now)... so although I could make something from veggies and things in the freezer and fridge, he's said he will go out and get Chinese take out later for me for dinner...( they don't deliver where we live) ..and tomorrow morning I'll get food delivered from the supermarket for the week.. ..

I haven't made my mind up what I'll want, but it'll probably be a seafood chow mein.... or deep fried sweet and sour prawn balls..
