My wife, Annmarie is going to have her left ankle replaced on the 7th of November in Sudbury, Ontario..
She had a serious accident 28 years ago and it finally flared up with arthritis to the point that there is no other option other than a replacement.. She cannot walk much, and is in pain most of the time..
She first saw her specialist a few weeks ago, had a cat scan, and is now scheduled for the replacement a few weeks from now.. She has her pre-op scheduled for the 31st of October.. Now, that's very fast !!!

I bought her a knee scooter for her to get around after the surgery.. She cannot weight bear for 6 weeks after surgery.. I will also have (borrow) a wheel chair for her to go out of the house in.. This week, I am having a ramp built for our front entrance to make it possible for her to go in and out.. We have a stair lift in the house for the past 8 years which she uses daily to go up and down the stairs..
I will have my hands full being her caretaker but I will succeed as she will need as much help as possible..
Remember, I am just getting over my shoulder replacement myself and I am not 100% yet..

Just to let you know what is going on in our quiet household.. never a dull moment !!!!!!!

Sounds like a busy time ahead for both of you, @Steve North . Hopefully, your wife’s ankle replacement will help her get around better once it has healed, like your shoulder surgery did for you.
At least you have a little more time to be healing up yourself first, before your wife has her surgery.

We never get tired of caring for our spouses, do we @Steve North? That always makes the difference. Love carries us through many things. You and your lady are blessed. You take care, and I hope your wife’s recovery is swift and of little pain. :)

I rented one, paid for by insurance company, when hubby had foot surgery this year. Come in handy for them. Hope all turns out well with her surgery, keep us posted :)

I also looked into renting one for my wife, but they wanted $75.00 a month for the rental.. The problem is in Sudbury there are only 3 units for rent and they are always out on rental, so if you need one, you must put your name on the waiting list and hope you get one before you need it.. At present, there are NO units available..
She will probably need it for about 3 months or so, and it is nice to have it before, to get used to it and get to know how to handle it properly.. That would cost me about $225.00 (plus tax) ..
I bought it on the internet.. it was originally $500.00 but reduced to $240.00 (plus tax) and FREE shipping.. She now has it about 3 weeks before her surgery to get used to it.. This one has a basket, swivel knee pad used on both sides, disc brakes, and folds down for transportation..
After she is fully finished with it, I will sell it for about $200.00..
Although only paid $240.00 for it, it is still a $500.00 machine.. There is a big demand for those scooters..

Today Annmarie has an appointment in Sudbury with a lung specialist to check out her breathing, making sure she can go through the operation without any difficulty breathing....
She already had her heart test, and that came out perfect..
All this is part of her pre-op.....

Annmarie went to see a lung specialist on Tuesday to be tested for her breathing before the operation..
    Everything turned out perfect..
Her heart is OK... her breathing is OK... Her diabetes is under control... Her blood pressure is OK...
Her blood work is OK ...
Looks like it is a green light for the 7th of November...

    Thanks Tim..
I was looking for the flowers on the knee scooter...
The knee pad sure makes it more comfortable to kneel on.. She uses a small cushion..

    BREAKING NEWS

My wife's surgery was today postponed from November 7th to December 12th..
Evidently the doctor will be away for a month and that is why the postponement..
We have NOT heard from the hospital yet concerning her pre-op.. Perhaps they will call soon with another date.. Usually it is about 10 days before the surgery..

Actually, this gives us a bit more time to get ready for the big day..
I will be in better physical shape to take care of her..
The drawback is she will spend Christmas not weight bearing.. Also the snow will be another challenge..
We have agreed to cancel both Chanukah and Christmas this year..

Oh my, I know in one breath it is a relief and in another it brings other drawbacks. It is a shame that you will not be enjoying the holidays as usual. Maybe you can go to a loved one’s holiday celebration, or maybe someone can come to your place to help with your’s. :)
