Today my Honey is grilling for us. We are doing pork steaks, a combo of beef and pork sausage, and my favorite chicken jalapeno sausage. We may cook some bacon and aged cheddar burgers too if my husband has enough heat left from the charcoal.

At Christmas time my BIL always sents us a box of marinades, etc. from the Honeyville Company. Today I decided to marinade my pork steak in the BumbleBerry Jalapeno dipping and grill sauce.

This dipping and grill sauce can be used as a marinade and is made with blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, jalapenos, some wildflower honey, some cane sugar and cider vinegar.

I have never have tried a berry based marinade and I am hoping I will really like it. I would have liked to have tried it on chicken first but that is not what we are grilling today. :) Anyway, it says it is an excellent meat tenderizer and good on all meats. We will see. :)

I am baking sweet potatoes and making some turnip greens and mexican cornbread to complete our meal today. And if I see a yummy dessert while I am picking up a few things at the market...we may have that too.

It comes in milder and stronger...the stronger one looks and tastes kind of like blue cheese.

It's an English cheese so Holly will have more info on it.

Ive seen it at my daughter's a few times.

Last night I fixed Bobert broiled chicken breast strips and banana waffles. Weird huh. I had never heard of this combination before he moved in with me, and then I thought he was pulling my leg until I was in Arizona a couple of winters ago, and it seemed to be on every menu of whatever restaurant I visited. Now I did change the chicken from breaded and deep fried to seasoned and broiled. I do not deep fry. Period.

@Babs Hunt , I haven’t fix gumbo since my Michaels died in 2014. I can’t eat a whole pot of it, and Bobert only eats canned chicken noodle or tomato soups. He said he doesn’t like anything with a sauce or like it. But then again, I’ve gotten him to eat several things he never thought he would.

I was taught how to cook gumbo by a young man from Baton Rouge in the early 70’s. I hadn’t seen gumbo with sausage until recent years. I made mine with fish, chicken, and shrimp, and it’s one of the only ways I like okra.

@Holly Saunders , I’m assuming those three foods are cooked separately. How do you fix your Stilton soup? Although I love cheese and broccoli soup, it can be a bit too rich for me. Bobert likes just about anything with cheese or sour cream in it, so I’d be interested in your soup.

I fixed butter beans with ham hocks a few weeks ago, and I had to give all but what I ate away. Seems he doesn’t like ham or beans,in anyway, but he will eat canned pork and beans. He doesn’t eat steak either. I admit I was shocked to find out Patricia raised her kids on fast foods. His favorites are Burger King, McDonalds, and Taco Bell.
