Eastern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Heads up down there late tonight and the morrow, and a couple of days following landfall. Another lightweight hurricane is going to bring some high tides, wind, and possible tornados to some parts of your areas as Nate makes landfall. Not a big storm but may carry lots of rain. Watch your weather. Cheers.

Not at all related, but nasty weather nonetheless, are the Santa Ana Winds we experience here in West-Central Arizona. Wind advisory issued for tonight and tomorrow, sustained 25-35 mph, gusts to 60. 60, I greatly dislike, as do all our landscaping plants excepting the Palo Verde trees and Palms; they just roll with it!

Folks caught out on the lakes will fare much worse. I happened to be out on Lake Mead years ago, showing a prospective buyer and his family how it performed. Lake Mead, with 550 miles of shoreline, can easily "disappear" small craft. High winds sprang up, as we were about 10 miles out, waves at least 8 to 10 feet high battered us from the west, almost coming from the exact direction we had to return by. I steered into each wave as it hit the boat, feeling as though it could break in two from such sledgehammer-like blows! Then steered toward shore until the next wave. The wife of Elmer, our prospective buyer commenced throwing up; we thought we were goners. But we made it back, no damage to the boat seemingly, and you know what?

He bought it! Sadly, the last step in preparing to dissolve our marriage........

We are getting some badly needed rain from the remnants of Nate but no wind or damage.

I've never experienced a Santa Ana wind but have read of them and heard them mentioned on tv? I have been caught on a lake when a severe thunderstorm blew up suddenly with sixty mph winds. Terrifying.

It has rained pretty steady for the last two days here in Alabama as well, and we still have rain/thunder forecast for the rest of today. We have been watering the flowers to keep them from drying up; but the rain has now really helped to soak into that dry clay and should perk everything back up again for a while.
The neighbors down the road are going to dig up some of their small banana plants once the ground is soft, and they said that they would bring us up some to plant once they get them dug up. We will probably plant the largest ones outside and mulch them over with lots of leaves this fall, and put the smaller ones in posts and winter them inside and plant them in the spring.
Once they are established, banana trees will grow here, although the top dies down each winter and comes back up again in the spring. Since there is not a year around growing season, they do not actually get any bananas unless you have a greenhouse to keep them in, but just the foliage is awesome.

I've read that that is the kind of weather that can hit Lake Meade in Las Vegas area. A boater, who is on the same boating forum I am, said that he had his nice/new boat on the one end of this lake when a t-storm and wind hit. He said that he just barely made it back to the marina going almost top speed.
