The national anthem, like the pledge of allegiance, is NOT about the president; it is about pledging our support and loyalty to our country. When we stand with our hand over our hear for the national anthem, we are making a silent pledge of loyalty.
There are all kinds of ways that a person can peacefully protest if they do not like the president, or some other part of the government; but showing disloyalty to our country is certainly not the right way.
This is not an issue of free speech, it is an issue of loving this country where we live, and being loyal to our country and our flag.

I agree Yvonne. As our President though it is my opinion that Trump has a right to speak against the NFL showing disrespect and disloyalty to our Country's National Anthem.

Why are Federal Funds going to the NFL anyway? Now there's something else I will have to research and find the answer to.

There are some good answers for you right in the video that Martin posted, Babs, and probably more information if you look on youtube for other videos.

I was raised to honor the flag and to pay respect by standing for our National Anthem.

I was also taught that one of the things you will do, when you enlist, is to protect
the right for others to disagree with our Government.

When this first happened in 2016, it struck me almost in a physical sense.

The same as the protests during the Vietnam War. I will defend it, but it hurt.

I know that the players say it isn't derespecting our Military or others, but it hits me that way.
    Sorry.

You have nothing to be sorry for Tim Burr as far as I'm concerned. I feel this way too.

Watch CNN and it's Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper interviewing people who say the protests are just while they stare at the camera with ultra serious looks on their faces. Switch to FOX and someone is yelling "disrespect the flag. Liberals"

I'm sick of the whole thing. Yes people have a right to protest and there is historical significance for it. However, in the end what do these protests do?

I'm fascinated by the use of the word "community" I've never really felt like I belonged any place. And when I hear about the "black community" I wonder why they don't get together and make real change. If there is such a thing as community.

For example I have heard of "food deserts" in urban areas. Where there is not close access to good quality food. I did a Youtube search and found some videos where people started their own small stores in urban areas providing access to good food for the people in those neighborhoods. These people are obvious industrious and did something to solve a problem. People aren't stupid. There should be more action like this. This is actually doing something. Not just shooting off your mouth.

I get really frustrated too with those just shooting off their mouths and becoming a part of the problem...instead of a part of the solution to a problem. In this topic I really feel we have a bit of both of these things going on.

There's a time and a place for everything....and this just didn't seem to be the time or the place in my opinion for the NFL to do this.

In the end though I believe that standing up for what one believes is the right thing to do. I also believe there is a right and a wrong way to do this...and the NFL did it the wrong way in my opinion. I don't think our President handled everything the right way in this problem either.

Life is getting crazier and crazier it seems on this earth. But one thing is still true. There are those that talk about about a problem and that's all they do....and there are those who actually look for and find solutions to them.
