BUT, the cost to live in a descent/safe place is pretty high. When I rented a furnished room in Anaheim, it cost me $300 to $350 a month, including utilities. But, no phone. Plus, the traffic...........don't even go there on that.

Some fo the major current models.
    GFS... GFSAM9-6.gif
    Euro... Euroam9-6.gif
    CMC... CMC919-6.gif
    Navgem... NAVGEMAM9-6.gif
    The outlier JMA... jmaam9-6.gif
The models have different periods, etc. but intended to show current track thinking. As earlier stated, the NHC makes adjustments in smaller increments, so future NHC tracks may indicate a further eastward shift, if the eastward shift is considered a trend, which is starting to seem likely.

I was thinking more in the San Diego area. Of course, the company paid my lodgings (meals and vehicles were on me.) It's been more than a few years, but the traffic in the San Diego area was a whole different animal than the L.A. area, imo.

We live far enough inland so that we don't get the worst of the hurricanes. However, when Fran came through, some people here lost power for two weeks. Ours was out for three days. My son changed the oil in our generators and made sure they are ready to run if we need them. If it looks like we will get Irma, we will stock up on gas.

We are some 20 miles inland from the beaches, BUT, if Irma comes directly over Florida (south to north), and not along the coast, it will be bad for us. We aren't in an Evacuation Zone because we aren't in a "low-laying" area, but if Irma comes directly overhead, well............just pray for all of us.

So far, we haven't heard anyone, inside our complex and out say they are leaving.

@Cody Fousnaugh , twenty miles is not much of a cushion when you are talking about a hurricane with 185 MPH wind. Are you in a mobile home?

Nope. It's a regular apartment complex, but we live in a "bungalow". Our apartment is attached to the rest of the building, but have nobody living above us. Anyway, that speed is a current speed. Unknown what the speed will be when/if it gets to us.

Just talked to my 1/2 brother, who is currently in PA with his wife. There main home is there. They are "snowbirds" and have a home, and a rental home, just north of Tampa. He told me, "no sense being worried, we can't just leave here and go down there", but his wife is stressing out somewhat over it. They've put quite a bit of money into refurbishing both homes and the rental is an "income" for them. The Pastor of the church they go to by their home here in Florida, calls them, or they call him, to see how things are. "Snowbirds" just can't fly or drive down to their winter home here whenever a hurricane or tropical storm is headed towards their home. All they can do is pray.

We know another couple who have a winter home in Ormond Beach (by Daytona). Plan on calling them to see what they think about this who thing.

I should have added that the wind speed forecasts suggest 8am Sunday as a category 4, 125mph winds. Category 3 on Monday. I would also mention that Harvey's track was pretty much forecast, BUT the intensity was way off within 48 hours of landfall.

It looks like it might be coming right over the part of the Dominican Republic where you said you live. I am glad that you have a sturdy cement block house, and are safe from flooding; but it still sounds like one terrible storm is going to hit there; so be careful, stay safe, and let us all know how you are doing when you can be online, @Martin Alonzo .
Sending prayers for your safety !

Went to Walmart for a couple more cases of water, but all out. All out of bread as well. They got 18 pallets of water in last night and by 11PM, all of it was gone.

Went down the street to a local grocery store and bought two cases of water. Not our brand, but still, water. Anyway, we run out of water, just start drinking Bud Light and wine! Make a party of this.
