Actually, I have had dreams that felt so real, it was reality in the moment. I dreamed I died. Extremely odd, my wife was there, but my sons were not. I was very happy for my wife to be with me, but very sad that my sons were not. I cried.

No, I'm not fixin' to die!

Some of the components of the dream were modeled on a program called Haibane Renmei, a Japanese production. With all foreign language films, we watch with English subtitles to get the full impact. The series should be on a watch list.

I love foreign films and I always have subtitles on anyway, sometimes even need them for American and especially British films.

Drugs or chemical aids don't generally trigger anything but hallucinations.
They stimulate parts of the brain that induce sensory changes within the brain resulting in a type of special-effects movie.
Some of these are good, some bad ,but they are not dreams, and much of what is remembered is often out of context because it tends to be a rapid-fire experience changing from one scene to another .
The parts of the brain that trigger dreams are actually quite selective in their projection.

There are , however, dream -supplements ,such as Lucid Dreamer by Advanced Dream Nutrition that can act as a stimulus for lucid dream production.
Nonetheless , if someone is serious regarding Lucid dreaming they should only use them occassionaly, as the more artificial aids are taken the quicker they lose their potency.
I still reccomend following the practices of the writers above if anyone is genuinely interested.

In my "Hippie" days I can remember an OBE that was drug induced. I was floating above everyone...including my own body just watching everything that was going on with me and everyone else. It was the first time I ever tried anything that took me outside of my body and let me observe not just the others...but myself as well. This may not fit the definition of an OBE...but it definitely was an out of my body experience for me.

Geez, I never took any drugs and was a virgin when I married. In other words...I guess I was boring. :)

May I briefly recite an experience and you can tell me what it was or what you think? This occurred some twenty-five years ago.

    Virgil

A customer and friend, Virgil, in Carlsbad, New Mexico had a heart attack, a bad one his heart doctor said and they flew him to Lubbock, TX to the Methodist Hospital, a large regional hospital between Dallas and Phoenix. I lived in Lubbock. His wife called me and said the doctors said he had only a ten percent chance of survival if they operated, too much of his heart had been damaged. She asked how much chance did he has if they didn't operate. The doctor replied, "None, he'll never leave the hospital alive." She told the doctors they had good insurance and I want the ten percent chance of survival for him. They operated on Virgil the next day but the doctor said to call in her family.

In the we hours of the next morning as Virgil lay unconscious after surgery I awoke at three a.m. disturbed at the dream I had had. I was shivering from the outside cold October night air. I dreamed I had been on the top of Methodist Hospital, talking to Virgil and he was telling me they were going to kill him. He said they are going to plan my funeral. He said I can make it if I can get to one more breath. You have to do something!

I said to Virgil, You've got the best medical doctors available here. Why me? There's nothing I can do. He said, ’You've got to or they will kill me.

One other thing. When Virgil and I talked, it was as though he didn't say anything, I read his thoughts and he read mine. He said, "You are the only SOB I know who might help me." It didn't fill like a dream, I actually thought it was real, strange as that might sound.

I was getting dressed when my wife woke up. I told her about the dream, told her how I felt, and that I was going up to the hospital. She said, I'll get dressed and go with you. I said, Ann, for Pete’?s sake don't say anything to anybody about this. This is the kind of stuff where people might question your sanity.

We went up to Intensive Care and met some of Virgil's kids and other family members and friends from Carlsbad. I went to the nurses station and said I wanted to go in to see Virgil. She said visiting hours are later and you can't go in until visiting hours. I said the word is Virgil can't make. He may not live until visiting hours, I want to see him and meditate a few minutes. She asked if I was family? I replied , Did you ever see two peas in a pod look more alike than Virgil and me? Look at our noses. The good nurse, said, go on in.

I walked unto the intensive care, nodded to his nurse and said, 'what's the work on the street regarding Virgil? She said the best word is, he can't live. I told her I was going to stand over by Virgil and meditate a few minutes. I didn't get up close, I hung back about eight or ten feet. I quietly said, Buddy I hope you can make it.I don't understand the last few hours but I'm going to stand here and think on it and I silently prayed for Virgil.

Suddenly, a small alarm sounded and four people came running into the room and starting hooking Virgil up to one of those machines where they shock you. They started pulling a curtain around him for privacy. The ICU nurse said, Sir, you can stand right over there in the corner. I was in there with the doctors and nurses as they shocked Virgil and watched him come off the bed a foot or so . Shocked him thee times when a nurse said, we've got a pulse. They worked with him until he was as stable as they could get him. They pulled the curtain back and everybody left except me.

I asked the ICU nurse how often they were shocking Virgil. She looked at her chart and said, about very seven minutes. I asked how many times this had happened and said their is the fifth time. I was about to go back to the waiting room when the Heart Surgeon walked in. He pick up the chart. He said to the nurse, “This shocking is hurting me and it’ killing him, don’t shock him any more. I’m pulling the plug and he wrote the instructions on the chart. I was standing behind the doctor when he said to the nurse, “Ok, that’s it, I’m pulling the plug, where’s his wife. I need to talk to her. He turned around and I said to him, Doctor are you giving this man a fighting chance? I think he can make it. The doctor looked at me as though I had slapped him. He said to me, I operated on this man, I held his heart in my hands and cut over half of it off and threw it away. He doesn’t have enough heart left to sustain life. Where’s his wife? I said I’ll take your to her. My wife and Virgil’s wife were talking in the hallway when I walked up with the doctor. He started talking to Virgil’s wife. I left and went back into ICU

I told the nurse the surgeon was not Virgil’s doctor. Dr Herd the Cardiologist is Virgil’s doctor. Can you get in touch with him. Dr Herd should know about this. She said I’ll page him and if he’s in the hospital he’ll respond. I replied, please get in touch with him wherever he is and let him know what’s happening. I left the ICU and went down to the cafeteria and got a cup of coffee.I sat there with my coffee and said quietly, Virgil that’s all I can do, buddy.

Days past and we carried Virgil’s wife out to eat and to the mall for her to get a change of clothes or two. When I was at the hospital Virgil’s kids and his wife asked me to go into ICU with them when they went in to see Virgil. They would go up to the bed and I would stand back and allow them some privacy even though Virgil remained unconscious.

I went back to work and two weeks went by. Virgil’s wife called and said Virgil was conscious but his vocal chords were damaged by poking tubes in and out of him and he could only talk in a whisper but he wanted to see me. Ann and I went up to hospital. He was now in a private room. When we walked in he said to me in a low voice, “Boy, I want to talk to you. Wasn’t that something? I asked, “What was something, Virgil, wondering what he might say.

“Up there on the roof of this hospital. That conversation we had. Wasn’t that something, the way we talked? I could read your thought and you mine You son of a gun you are the only one I could call on who might help me. You saved my life, and he said, “Come here, I want to hug you.

Virgil lived another fifteen years. We remain good friends.
