I love the Manager's Special section of the meat counter at Kroger. Although Kroger is more expensive for some items, I much prefer their meat over the meat sold at Walmart, which is where I tend to buy some other products, especially pet supplies. I've been shopping at both stores for long enough to know which items to purchase at which location. I was at Kroger the other day to pick up a few small items, and stumbled on some good deals in the Manager's Special section of the meat aisle. My freezer was pretty full, but I still managed to purchase several packages of ground chuck and other meat that will be perfect for stir fries.

Have you gotten some good deals on Manager's Special?

I like Walmart for a lot of things, but I seldom buy food there. Walmart's citrus fruits are tasteless and I don't trust their meats. We don't buy a lot of canned food, but I suppose I'd buy canned food from Walmart. We don't have any Kroger stores around here, as far as I know.

Kroger has a lot of affiliates. It took me a while, but I found this. You can also just go to Kroger and plug in your city and state. I tried state alone, but that didn't work. They apparently own jewelry stores, as well, and seem to do a lot with the Salvation Army and USO. kroger page 11 store locations types.jpg

Kroger actually has the Manager Specials on a lot more than the meats; but you have to get there on the right days for each thing. Just about anything that has a short experation period will usually go on the clearance sale sometimes during the week.
I have found that Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday are the best days for me to find them. Produce, bakery items, meats, milk, cheeses, and other dairy items are some of the other things that I look for.
Since we take vitamin supplements and use protein drinks and bars, I also look in the health-medicine dept for closeouts there. When they take a product out of inventory, you often get a closeout price of way less than half of the regular price.

Krogers website also has the Free Friday Special, where they give away a free item each week. You have to get it added to your Kroger card on Friday of each week, and then you have a week or two to claim the free item. They also send me coupons in the mail for discounts on items that i buy a lot, and those are great as long as i remember that I have them.
Plus, they give you points for a gas discount , so you can really save money on gas if you buy much groceries there.

Yes, I usually add the Friday freebie to my card. I don't always remember to redeem it, but I did this past week, so the kitties will be getting a treat soon. I haven't seen the specials, other than on the meat, which is my primary concern, since that's usually the only time I can afford it, and also on the baked goods, because there's usually a rack in the aisle, so it's difficult to miss. I'll have to pay more attention next time I go. I'm usually in a rush when I'm there, and am looking to run in and out, but I'll try to schedule some time to explore on my next trip. I wish my local Kroger had the gas pumps, but I have to drive to the next town for that, so I rarely take advantage of that savings. I'm up there once a month, and don't always have the money or need the gas at that time, but it's nice to know it's available.

According to the map, there are almost none in New England, and none at all in Maine, which is what I thought.

Yes, I'd never heard of Kroger until I moved down here, and even back in the 80s, it was mainly Weingarten's, Safeways and a few HEBs down here. I think the closest thing Kroger has to you is a chain of jewelry stores in New York.

:oops:I love manager's specials too and we get them at Love's Bread Thrift Shop. Another store that has Manager's Special is Don Quiote Supermarket. The prices are so great and it's something you're going to get so when it's a lower price it's just great! In-Store specials are another good priced items throughout CVS too. I love these specials and the great prices. We don't have a Kroger though here in Hawaii, yet. Well here's hoping for a Kroger locally!

I know what your saying. I have gotten on a few managers specials in the past at a Kroger supermarket. The only problem I have is that I don't get to Kroger too often so I have to settle for another supermarket that is closer to me. This one doesn't have the same kind of manager's specials on meat.

We do not have Kroger in my area but we do have specials at the local grocery stores on meat that is sold greatly reduced if you happen to be there at the right time.

This reminds me of the Bonus section in the SM supermarkets - the biggest chain of supermarkets and malls. That Bonus section has an everyday special for senior citizens and persons with disabilities for their beef and pork. Depending on the cut of the day, it can be brisket today or maybe sirloin tomorrow and the same for the pork. Qualified buyers like my husband who is a senior citizen are given 20% discount. Not bad eh? And although a disounted buyer is limited to just 1 kilo per item, it is a big help if you are short on budget.
