just got a call saying it was the Apple Store and my iCloud acct has been hacked. I obviously didn't give any info to this person and he got kind of angry and said..."okay, just know you're acct has been hacked and don't call us anymore". I didn't call in the first place. Then I Looked up the number and it was the Apple Store in the mall in Fresno. Ive never even been in that store and when I called that number back...it was the Apple Store in Fresno but they said it was probably a spammer because they never make a call to say your iCloud acct has been hacked. Bit it's weird that the spammers number was the number of the Apple Store. Now I'm all worried about this. Anybody have any ideas how this is possible? Only thing I can think of is a crooked employee.
I think that you should contact customer service for Apple, and talk with someone there. They can tell whether it was true or not. A while back I got that email that looked like it was from Apple, and it said that my account was hacked. I didn't acknowledge the email because when I looked to see what the address was that sent it, it was not Apple. I don't know how they got the number for your local store; but I think you need to report it to the main office and let them check it out. I would guess that it was probably spam; but Customer service can check it out for you.
I don't think any store would be calling you on a hack unless they were doing it. I remember a company who had a new virus remover to a new virus that just came out later they found it started by this company. I have never had a call from a computer related problem. I have a bank that has been calling me for years asking for someone else and threatening to do things funny I do not even have an account at that bank.
I get lots of spam calls but I know they are spam but this one was weird that they had the same number as the legit Apple Store in Fresno.
If you go to Apple.com, go to support, and you should be able to either call or chat with someone. it says Apple support is also on Twitter. Here is the link for you. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204759
Finally talked to someone and he said they never call and they get people who hack into numbers somehow. Seems they've gotten a lot of these calls in the last two months. Said I should report it to the Federal trade commission. He did say they would usually send out an email but never call. I'm usually very savvy about spam and most are so obvious that it's funny but this was just too real...they're getting more sophisticated I think. Also, the timing of it was weird. I just got the iPhone 7 last week and synced everything with iCloud recently..maybe that's another reason this bugged me.
They just called again ....I know how to block a number from my iPhone but can't remember how to do it from my landline. Does anybody know? Of course they can use other numbers obviously. Maybe I'll just mute my phone...I usually never answer my home phone anyway, everybody important has my cell.
Do I like I do...answer phone with something like this.. Marion County Police dept. or Apple Play Store ..how may I help you?
When I get scam calls they useally say is that Mrs G ...I say no that's my mother she's at bingo right now can I take a message ..they hang up on me ...How Rude ...is it to hang up,on someone
Too funny, @Kate Ellery! Now I'm hoping they call again....gonna have some fun. Seriously though, these spammers are getting more sophisticated if they can call you from a number that is really an Apple Store when you look it up. But...Apple told me they will never call but now I will double check any emails from them also.
