When we lived in Colorado, we stopped by a RC Park inside a State Park/Reservoir. Seeing these guys fly their planes around was pretty cool. We thought about getting one, but didn't do it until we moved to North Carolina and wife bought me a small RC plane for Christmas. There was really no where to fly the thing where we lived, and besides that, the controls/construction of the plane looked too complicated for me. I wound up giving it to a Maintenance Man for his older son. After to moving here to Florida, my wife bought me an RC Helicopter that I can fly around our living room. I've gotten pretty darn good controlling it. It shoots plastic missiles and I (accidentally shot one at my wife's back one time). They are very small and didn't hurt her at all, but did stun her.

I use to have a Manager years ago that turned his entire backyard into a RC Race Car track. It was pretty cool until he got tired of it and tore it down.

One thing I do know, and have found out, some RC things are pretty darn sophisticated and expensive!

Back when I owned a house with a large yard, I would've loved to have a RC self propelled power mower.:)

I fly 5 foot sailplanes, I have 3 of them, and a 4 foot bald Eagle replica .... As to expense, I have a $400 plane with a tiny 'brain' ... can even land itself and if you get mixed up in the air, orientates itself automatically.

Oh boy...my grandsons would love you!

    Don't worry, I'm not proposing. :)

There's an open area by my daughter's house where I've seen some very big planes being flown.

Did you read my post about having an RC small helicopter that I fly in our living room? I have fun flying and have gotten pretty darn good at landing it as well.

Just look at us old dudes playing with these RC toys. Gotta love it!!

There's a guy at the end of my street that's always outside playing with an RC car....usually on the sidewalk but sometimes it goes into the street and he makes me nervous...I'm always afraid I'm going to run over it.

Not an enthusiast but I do enjoy chasing the cats around with my remote-controlled police car. The cats aren't so crazy about the game, though. A helicopter might even be more fun.

My son has crashed and lost one ... we searched for hours ... i've lost two and it's heartbreaking to watch a few hundred dollars smashing into the ground .... My son lost a $1200 plane ...was just too powerful and got away from him faster than he could think ..

I can imagine, that's a lot of money to lose. My ex liked the RC airplanes also but he didn't have a very expensive one but he took it to the park along with my then 7 year old grandson and somehow it got out of the park and onto the road.

He ran to try and get it but a lady ran right over it before he could get it. He says she did it on purpose, he was so angry!

The good ones are pretty expensive and the cheap ones are crappy..fun for a bit but don't last long...at least not the ones my grandsons had.

I'd like to have one that I could fly over my land with a camera to see what's there that I haven't come across. Areas of the land are difficult to walk through. I can't afford to spend hundreds of dollars on something that is going to crash and die, though.

Too bad...it would be a good way to do what you say, but a decent one is expensive and doesn't mean it won't crash.

It seems like there are a lot of people who have those small drones because when there is a storm of some kind, someone posts a video on Facebook showing the storm (or whatever the weather did). It might be that you could just hire someone who has a drone to fly it over your property up north and take the pictures for you ?
It wouldn't be like having your own where you could fly it over anytime you wanted, but it would be a good way to get an aerial video of your property, and would be cheaper than spending hundreds of dollars buying a drone and then having it crash somewhere out in the woods.
