There is an outdoor large upscale shopping area here that had it's first murder early Friday morning. Funny, I've always thought of this area as one of the safest areas in this city, but now.......

It happened at a new, very swanky (Beverly Hills type) nightclub that was having a 18+ party. An argument broke out inside that led to a fight outside. A guy, who was trying to break up the fight, was shot and died later on Friday. So, now it is a murder. Law enforcement has a suspect in custody and will charge him with murder.

I believe it was last year, a nice seafood restaurant there found a young adult dead in the restroom after they closed. No foul play was found, so it is believe to be either drug or health related.

We've been to this shopping area a number of times.

Well, yesterday, there were four shootings in the city..........all on the north/northwest side, which is very well noted for gun violence and gang activity. There were two "drive-by's" where a 12 year old was shot in the leg while sitting on a park bench and a 30 year old lady was grazed by a bullet while in a park. Another was a robbery/shooting and another shooting where one person was shot and another died. And, this happened in one day!

And what gets us, more and more people are moving here. It has to be the job salaries and/or the availability of jobs here. We don't know, but there are folks that live here that think this city is the best city in America to live. Hugh???

Everyone has guns in Millinocket so we don't have shootings.

You would have shootings if you had gangs....gangs don't care who has guns.

Most of our shootings are gang related.

A number of ours is gang-related, but others are domestic-violence, robbery or stupid people leaving their firearms out where a child can get it and the firearm doesn't have a lock on it. Believe it or not, a lot of "disagreements" here have gun violence associated with them.

Yes, after gangs I'd say domestic problems and drunken fights are next on the list, then robberies.

I don't think there's been more than one murder in many years in my area of Fresno but Central Fresno has one a day maybe.

Yes, there would be shootings. But then the gangsters would be dead.

I live in a large town. There are more homeless then when I moved here over 22 years ago. There is crime. Car break ins. Bicycle theft. I'm sure a lot more but you don't hear a ton of crime on the news every night.

Wife and I have found out that many, many people here don't even watch the local news. They say, "we already know what the crime and gun violence is like here, we don't need to hear about it. Most people here will say, "I don't care who shoots who in those areas. As long as it's not where I live, I don't care about it."

Crimes in Maine are often brought to a stop by citizens before the police arrive. We have crime but the sorts of crime that affects regular citizens is often taken care of by regular citizens.

Northeastern Florida? Can't recall any large cities up that way, but then, studying the subject was many moons ago. Back then, talk in and around Chicago-land often revolved about moving to, or wintering in, Florida.

Jacksonville. Actually, the largest city in Florida...........at least that's what we've read. Think I've already put this into a post, but a lot of "black on black" crime here.

I did not realize there were so many "Jacksonvilles". My Nephew lived in Jacksonville, NC, for several years, in the Marine Corps. He will be deploying to Japan in late Sept., NC being a memory. Spends this summer training at Fort Leonard Wood in MO. We will be storing his vehicles and numerous belongings here at our place during his 3 year stint in Japan. I only hope fervently that I don't croak while he is gone!
