Why do people take so long to learn ! A man was prosecuted last week for leaving his dog in the car during blistering heat wave The dog passed Yesterday a person was walking along and heard distressing sounds from a van, when she looked, an Alsatian dog was in great distress. The result was, the owner had left this poor animal in the van for 4 hours ! (again blistering heat) I hope doggie will be OK and I hope this man is never allowed a dog again ! How cats and dogs survive the heat is beyond me, but to be in a confined space with the heat blazing down is unbearable to think of
In the movie, Megan Leavey, she is getting gas in her vehicle and notices a dog in the backseat of a car and the window rolled all the way up. The driver was inside the station store. At first it appeared she wasn't going to do anything, then she got a baseball bat out of her car and walked towards the car with the dog in it. Right then, the driver came out and asked her what she was doing and she really laid into him about his dog. She turned around, got into her car and took off (with probably saying some very choice words the movie audience couldn't hear).
Thing is, I'm seeing more and more people bring their dog into stores now. However, unless the dog is a Service dog, and wearing the banner stating that, regular dogs aren't allowed in stores, especially grocery stores. The manager of a CVS Drug Store told me that he had to encounter a lady who had brought her dog into his store and it wasn't a Service dog. He told me she kind of got pissed off at him for telling her that her dog couldn't be in his store, but left. I'm sure some dog owners think they are in a "no win" situation. If they forget to lower a window in their car for their dog, law enforcement could be called or an encounter could happen. So, they don't leave their dog in the car and still get into trouble.
California seems to be more lenient in letting dogs in stores...maybe not grocery stores but I see them in Macy's all the time and they aren't service dogs.
If I'm left in the car during a heat wave, I almost pass out, door has to be wide open while I sit there waiting
It's rare that I'm left sitting in a car in Fresno since I'm the driver but sometimes I'll stay in the car when I'm at my daughter's if she's just running in for something...it's cooler there plus she leaves me the key so I can turn on the air or roll the window down.
I don't know how people can be so negligent. My cats are indoors and relaxing in relative AC comfort. Due to the heat wave, I have the AC on now at 84 and it's really not that bad. Once we get down to the 90's again I'll crank it back down to 82.
