The game is blame your enemy for what you are doing and try convincing everyone it is true
They have been trying to portrait the Russia as this bad country who wants to interfere in everyone’s business. Well let us look at history in the American Revolution England approach Russia for troops to help stop it. They were refused.
    https://www.jstor.org/stable/1836701?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents

Then came the American Civil War who stepped in to stop English troops from landing and against the
Union was the Russian blockading the British from landing.

Who did more to help the US to win the Second World War the Russians.
The Russians had troops on Japans soil before they dropped the A-bomb. Japan was in the process to surrendering to the Russians.

You make a fair point, but has Russia changed ?
Its a pity - but suspicion breeds suspicion doesn't it
Its a pity also, that we just can't 'all' get along .............
Its a good thing to highlight the above though that's for sure

I have a suspicion that the leaders of our two countries get along just fine, and the phony enmity is used to justify unwarranted military spending by both countries, as well as the curtailing of rights for citizens within the United States and Russia.

It is funny as the US increase their spending on the military Russia just decreased theirs or maybe they don't have the money or wish to go into debt.

I'm not talking about just this year, however. Last year, they increased their military spending, and they still spend a much larger percentage of their GDP on the military than we do. Plus, a lot of our military spending goes to support other countries and terrorist groups like ISIS.

I don't like Putin or any Russian for that matter. he's backing a brutal dictator in Syria who's committing genocide. Russians are keen on genocide their gulag's are a testament to that.

Russia was never a friend to any but Russians. And: Russia's intent has always been to occupy and subvert other countries.
    German (Hitler)-soviet- (Stalin) nonaggression-pact

"The pact also contained a secret agreement in which the Soviets and Germans agreed how they would later divide up Eastern Europe.

I think most informed of Russia's perfidy in our lifetimes know the Pravda Ploy seldom works as truth when the facts are known. Russia were 'allies' of convenience any time in any conflict and remain enemies of human rights to this day.
Russia's help in WW2 only came after the pact they had with the Nazis threatened...Russia.
After the war Russia occupied every European country (enslaved with few Human rights-free speech!) it could and threatened the rest openly, going so far as to arm Cuba threatening USA destruction.
Commies still exist as does propaganda

I would rather have Russia as a friend than an enemy! Why anger Russia? We have enough problems to fix in the USA...let's work on that.

Most of us only know the top layer of what is even going on, we'll never get to the bottom of it so why waste so much time on it.

We don't have to be friends with Russia but let's not go out of our way to anger them.

If the USA increases spending on military they do so as a result of Russian threat as in, Crimea invaded. Europe threatened..By Russia.

So sure money is tight but does anyone trust Putin? Don't think so.
After years of beefing up the military, invading the Ukraine. Shooting down civilian planes aiding the monster Assad in Syria the economy is a-hurtin over there in Putin land.

Well...you won't get Russia into a cage without a lot of trouble...so just act like it's not poisonous and have anti venom at the ready.

The Russia of today is nothing like the Russia of the communist era.

My late husband and many of my relatives lived in Hungary when it was communist.

Ignoring something that refuses to be benign is hardly to be recommended.

Europe sees Putin as a threat. Hungary suffered the consequences of Russia's expansion plans. Do you actually believe Putin has no goal to expand after the loss of the USSR? If you were in Ukraine would you " just act like it's not poisonous" ?
    In the news of late.

Russia warned Denmark its warships could become nuclear targets

Russia tells Denmark not to join Nato missile shield or face becoming a target for Russian missiles

Russian forces 'practiced invasion of Norway, Finland, Denmark and Sweden'

During an exercise in March, Russian troops rehearsed how to invade four regional neighbors.

Personally my years of watching the Russian antics has suggested that they ain't our friends by their (political) choice.

Russia will never be benign...what do you suggest doing with Russia where we won't feel the consequences?

I suggest Russia (Under Putin or his equivalent) be on the short list of potential actual threat to Europe and a continuing cyber threat to any else.
I suggest that any offense against any other country be immediately responded to with sanctions and or NATO response in kind.

Ignoring a 'Putin' only reinforces their determination and gives off the stink of weakness.
