I have a suspicion that the leaders of our two countries get along just fine, and the phony enmity is used to justify unwarranted military spending by both countries, as well as the curtailing of rights for citizens within the United States and Russia.
It is funny as the US increase their spending on the military Russia just decreased theirs or maybe they don't have the money or wish to go into debt.
I'm not talking about just this year, however. Last year, they increased their military spending, and they still spend a much larger percentage of their GDP on the military than we do. Plus, a lot of our military spending goes to support other countries and terrorist groups like ISIS.
I don't like Putin or any Russian for that matter. he's backing a brutal dictator in Syria who's committing genocide. Russians are keen on genocide their gulag's are a testament to that.

I would rather have Russia as a friend than an enemy! Why anger Russia? We have enough problems to fix in the USA...let's work on that. Most of us only know the top layer of what is even going on, we'll never get to the bottom of it so why waste so much time on it. We don't have to be friends with Russia but let's not go out of our way to anger them.

I suggest Russia (Under Putin or his equivalent) be on the short list of potential actual threat to Europe and a continuing cyber threat to any else. I suggest that any offense against any other country be immediately responded to with sanctions and or NATO response in kind. Ignoring a 'Putin' only reinforces their determination and gives off the stink of weakness.
