Many of you know my daughter and her family that live in Texas are moving back here to Louisiana. They will sell their home in Texas and buy one over here. Today my daughter sent me this home that she is interested in. This house did take on some water in the flooding of August 2016 and has been gutted, etc....and is ready for all the inside renovations.

My middle daughter and her family just went through this same scenerio with their home and it is completely renovated and remodeled inside and looks nothing like her home did before the flooding. And while my daughter did not enjoy living somewhere else for all the months it took to get their home ready to live in again...she did enjoy choosing the way she wanted things remodeled and buying all new furniture, etc. for it. Now I think my youngest daughter is seeing the possibilites in renovating and remodeling a house so that it will be their special home too.

While I have always enjoyed "minor" renovations, etc. I don't think I would enjoy tackling major renovation like this. @Bobby Cole might enjoy this and I was wondering if others here would too?

It's a nice looking house but I wouldn't want to have to renovate...takes time and money! I guess bottom line is how much they like the house and how much it will cost, plus other inconveniences.

The money won't be a problem and the time won't really be either, although they may get tired of living with someone else (sometimes) during the renovations. This home is in a great subdivision and is located in an area that would put them about half way to our home and her oldest sister's, and half way to her middle sister's and his mom and dad's. They would not have to travel on major traffic streets for him to go to work or for her to get to any of our homes, etc. So they would only be in major traffic when they wanted to be. :)

They would finance the house as is but pay cash for all the renovations, therefore having alot of instant equity in their home too. I don't know what is going to happen...but it's going to be interesting to see what they decide to do here. :)

And if they do buy it...I can see my daughter bringing me my grandbabies to babysit while she takes care of one thing or another with the renovations. :)

Only God knows the answer to that @Chrissy Cross! :) This is the first time it has ever flooded there and at my middle daughter's home. And neither places are mapped as a flood zone area (although they may change that now) and neither are we. But they definitely will buy flood insurance if they decide to buy that house since there is no way to know if this will happen again or not. :)

That sounds safe enough then and flood insurance will help.

Flood insurance paid for complete renovation inside and out of my middle daughter's home after the flood and all her new furniture, and inside stuff too. You do have to make sure you buy enough coverage to do that too but it more than pays for itself if there is a flood.

if I was younger I definitely would take on a whole house renovation... my daughter has just finished the new renovation on her 100 year old finca in Spain..she has so much energy..but she's only 41...I could do that when I was 41, I could have done it even in my 50's...but now now, and although my husband is probably still capable of doing it..he just wouldn't have the time, nor I'm sure would he have the patience to do it himself..

Getting people in to do it would be the easier option but certainly the most expensive....so the answer to your question..would I personally take on a whole house renovation.... the answer is NO!!

Actually, most renovations I do are those that no one else wants to do without a considerable amount of money.
I enjoy the freedom to use my imagination and the end results. The problem that I have is working behind someone else who obviously didn't care about doing things correctly. The other problem I seem to always face is the uncaring way past tenants leave their abodes.

Here's an example of how much garbage had to be hauled out of my latest venture. Uh, this picture is the actual way the last tenant, a crack head, lived.
I had to actually strip every inside wall out just to get rid of the cock roaches. IMG_0003.JPG IMG_0003.JPG

Our previous house needed renovation throughout - just us two doing it all except for a wall built
I guess we enjoyed it at the time - we called ourselves 'The Wearys' :p

Definitely need the "yuck" button to click on for that mess! I don't know how anyone can treat their own or someone else's property like that...my moma taught me better for sure! I'm sorry @Bobby Cole that you have to clean up all the mess before you can fix the things that need fixing.

If my daughter and her husband buy that house they definitely will have people who are experienced doing the major renovating and will probably ask a lot of the contractors my middle daughter and her husband used because these people are also friends of my middle daughter's husband (who at one time worked in home construction, etc. with most of these people). The son-in-law who may buy that home also has Uncles, etc. in home construction, etc. so they are really blessed that if they decide to buy this home...the renovations, etc. will be done right and to code or beyond! :) I'm sorry if my post sounded like they would do all the work theirselves...that just would not be possible and it would take to long to do too. So they will have professional help but will make the decisions on the remodeling and decor, etc. Plus whatever they can lend a hand in to save money...they will be doing too. :)
