I know that things were not brilliant for many in London only a few years after the ending of the first world war, and just pre 2nd world war...and there was a lot of poverty around too as well as wealth ... but I love these eclectic pictures. It shows hope and happiness in adversity... you may notice all the children playing out...and not one overweight kid in sight... Thanks so much Holly So good to see these wonderful pictures - how I miss those 'optimistic' days Just a couple more .............................. How I 'love' Cheetahs Such great pictures ! Holly I guess the shop in yer picture, isn't actually saying 'black and whites' welcome - or is it ..........................
Oh No, I'm sure not @Patsy Faye ,,,I did a little bit of research on it, and it would seem the Black & white bar was just a name invented by a Greek Australian for the very first milk bar in Australia (possibly because of the decor, I'm not sure).... ... there were other names of milk bars too http://neoskosmos.com/news/en/the-birth-of-a-milk-bar here's some more pictures... http://news2read.com/travel/Nostalgic-images-reveal-London-s-timeless-charm/726937
It makes sense for Black and White to be the name for an ice cream bar, since they have that dark chocolate coating over the vanilla ice cream inside. I only remember them being called an ice cream bar here; but when they first came out, they could have had a different name.
Sorry about the wrong user name Patsy...but I don't know why you would have got a problem with the second link, it's a legitimate newslink with photos...
I know - odd It flashed up all of a sudden as the link settled in - gives me a funny turn when that happens You should see me panic Holly - you'd be in stitches
