I just have been watching a very interesting video that I would like to share with other Bible-believers on the forum and see what you think about this.
It is over an hour long; so unless you have a real interest in the Bible and how science pertains to the Genesis story of creation, this may be a longer video than you want to watch.
However, if you (like me) have a deep interest in how this world actually came into being, and where we fit into the universe, as well as wanting to have a deeper understanding of how science does or does not support the Bible; then you will probably agree that it was an hour well spent.
This topic is obviously not going to be of much interest to anyone who does not believe in God or the Bible, and that is why I have put it in the religious area, rather than in one of the main sub-forums.

To preface this topic, let me start with a little introduction of what we are discussing here.
The book of Genesis gives us the story of the creation of this world. It says that the sun was not even created until the Fourth Day of Creation, and that by then, there was abundant vegetation growing on the earth.
There is no way that the earth could have been circling around the sun, since it had not even been created yet. The earth was the first creation, before the sun, moon, and stars.
Scientists tell us that the earth is just an ordinary planet with an ordinary star which (we call the sun) in a galaxy somewhere in an almost endless universe.

The Bible says that the earth is stationary, and that it cannot be moved. It does not say anything that even begins to imply that we fly through space and orbit around the sun.
For thousands of years, people everywhere believed that the earth was the center of the universe, and as the Bible told us, that the sun rises and sets.
Eventually, pagan sun-worshippers like Copernicus said that we needed to make the sun as the center of the universe, and the earth circling it, rather than the sun rising and setting.

Gradually, that world-view gained popularity, and has been the accepted view since then. Christians, and other religions who believe the Bible as the word of God have tried to fit the two views together, and somehow meld creation and evolution into one belief.

I am one of those people who have tried to take the Bible literally and still make it fit with what we were taught in school science class, and had a hard time doing it without calling the Bible wrong.
This video is an amazing walk through time with a Bible scholar who also understands science, and it explains a lot of things differently than I have heard before.
Anyone who wants to take the time to watch this video and comment, please do.

I don't usually comment on threads about religion, much more the Bible because I am a devoted Catholic. But as I had posted in another thread, I am maintaining a balance between my human side and spirituality, particularly that of my religion. And regarding the facts stated in the Bible, that the earth is the center of the universe since it doesn't move, that goes to show that the writers of the Bible are ignorant of facts that we now know based on science. Understandably there is no science yet during the time of those Bible writers hence their mistake.

And since the Bible is the topic, may I just pose this question that my husband had asked of a priest.. it remained unanswered until now. If Jesus is ONLY the foster son of Joseph then why is it the lineage of Jesus points towards the lineage of Joseph? Lineage is bloodline, the definitely does not apply to adoption.

Actually, @Corie Henson , there is a lot of scientific evidence that is not being taught. That is why I posted the video, so that interested people could watch it and learn like I did.

If you are interested in having a discussion about the lineage of Jesus, that is a whole different topic, and maybe you can present some facts and start a topic about that in the religious sub-forum yourself.
This topic is not a discussion of the whole Bible, just about the Biblical account of Creation and how science also gives it credibility.

I know that this is what science teachers tell us is true, and some people say that the whole story of creation is just a myth. It is hard for me to accept that part of the Holy Bible is true, and parts of it are just myths, although I know that there are many religious people who do believe in God; and still do not believe the Bible.

Since I believe that the whole Bible iis the word of God; I like to see what scientists believe verified in the Bible.
@Val White , can you tell me where you find the Bible saying that we are just specks of unimportant dust ?

How did you manage to find the word unimportant in my post !!

God Renews the Promise to Abram

Genesis13 to 16. For all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. 16"I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.17"Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you."…

Well, I do believe in God, but to be honest I do not believe completely in what is written in the Bible. Yes, we can argue that this is the word of God, but is it or is this the word of God as interpreted by man? We all know what can happen when something is interpreted or passed down to be interpreted. Yes, some vital information can be excluded or it can misinterpreted. So, I don't take the Bible as complete fact, at the same token I don't fault anyone who does. It's their own personal feelings on the subject, and I respect them for it.

Thank you,Yvonne, for sharing this video. I watched the presentation and some of the Q&A session. I have always believed that the earth is at the center of God's Universe.

Having the earth, in a stationary position would explain how this would be possible. I believe in the creation, as recorded in Genesis, as truth.

I believe the same Spirit who brought inspiration to the writers of the Bible, is present today to bring revelation to the readers of the Bible.

Mary and Joseph are both from the linage of David. Matthew (Chap.1) traces Joseph's through David's Son,Solomon, while Luke (Chap 3:23) traces Mary's through David's Son,Nathan, who is a direct descendant.

That is wonderful, @Joe Riley !
I have been reading more about the creation and also some of the information that is in some of the other books which are not considered part of the Bible, such as the Book of Enoch.
It is unthinkable that our God would deliberately LIE to these early writers, and they wrote down things that they were either told by God or by an angel that He sent to explain things to them.
The Bible also says that there is a Firmament over the earth that is similar to glass, and that the sun, moon and stars are placed inside of that firmament.
If you take the Bible literally, the Bible is a flat-earth book.

We are told that the earth is a globe, but everything we have as proof of that comes from one place, NASA.
The pictures that they show us are composites, and some of them are just paintings, or pictures taken out of a round window that makes things look like a sphere.
The Bible warns us about the great deception, and it says that even some of the elect will be fooled. What could be a greater deception than the truth about our earth ?
If the story of creation of the world is correct, it will entirely throw out evolution.

Truthfully, when I first started looking into this, I thought it had to be crazy.
We were all raised with a globe in the classroom, and probably one in our homes, too. I watched the first presentation of Mark Sargent's "Flat Earth Clues" videos just to see how anyone could even consider a flat earth in our modern society.
But by the time I had worked my way through the evidence that he presents , I was starting to look at things differently, and so started my quest to find the truth about this possibility.

There are places that we should not be able to see (due to the curvature of the earth) , yet we can see them. Sometimes, it takes a pair of binoculars, or even a telescope, but that they are visible at all proves that they are not over the horizon.
The Anacapa Arch is a huge stone out in the ocean about 20 miles from Ventura Beach in California. It should not be visible from shore, but on clear days, it is. People even have a saying that "the arch is out today", and no one considered that they should not be able to see it.
A college professor worked out the math and told his student that seeing something that size at that distance was impossible. When the student explaind that it was the arch and everyone had seen it; the college professor had no answer.

Again, this is not a rabbit trail that many people will want to hop down; but if you are interested in the possibility, then you will find the trail fascinating to follow.

Since most of the scientists who tell us that the earth is a globe are also the same atheists who say that we came from monkeys and that there is no God; I am going to put my faith in the Bible on this one and keep hopping down the bunny trail until I can come to a conclusion of what the truth is.

And..........I kind of like the idea that I may be living in "God's Terrarium".
It makes me feel really special and loved.

I find it amazing that people will refuse to take the Bible's version of Creation, which is detailed and orderly in it's execution, and yet believe in the "big Bang Theory" which was originated in the 20's by a man.

    Origins of the Theory
"A Belgian priest named Georges Lemaître first suggested the big bang theory in the 1920s when he theorized that the universe began from a single primordial atom. The idea subsequently received major boosts by Edwin Hubble's observations that galaxies are speeding away from us in all directions, and from the discovery of cosmic microwave radiation by Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson.

The glow of cosmic microwave background radiation, which is found throughout the universe, is thought to be a tangible remnant of leftover light from the big bang. The radiation is akin to that used to transmit TV signals via antennas. But it is the oldest radiation known and may hold many secrets about the universe's earliest moments.

The big bang theory leaves several major questions unanswered. One is the original cause of the big bang itself. Several answers have been proposed to address this fundamental question, but none has been proven—and even adequately testing them has proven to be a formidable challenge".

I suppose some some have made Science, their God...and worship at the feet of Science. This is an interesting article on the subject. NOTE: It states that Fred Hoyle, the astronomer was the one who coined the term big bang.

"As factors continued to be discovered, the number of possible planets hit zero, and kept going. In other words, the odds turned against any planet in the universe supporting life, including this one. Probability said that even we shouldn?t be here.

Today there are more than 200 known parameters necessary for a planet to support life?every single one of which must be perfectly met, or the whole thing falls apart. Without a massive planet like Jupiter nearby, whose gravity will draw away asteroids, a thousand times as many would hit Earth?s surface. The odds against life in the universe are simply astonishing.

Yet here we are, not only existing, but talking about existing. What can account for it? Can every one of those many parameters have been perfect by accident? At what point is it fair to admit that science suggests that we cannot be the result of random forces? Doesn?t assuming that an intelligence created these perfect conditions require far less faith than believing that a life-sustaining Earth just happened to beat the inconceivable odds to come into being"?

I remember learning that human life requires a window of oxygen in the atmosphere , to survive. The minimum is 19.5% The maximum 23.5%. Guess what the percentage of oxygen is in our atmosphere? ...20.9% That doesn't sound like an accident...it speaks of design.
