Since we have our Google Home and Chromecast all setup now, we decided on Wednesday to get a subscription to Netflix. Chromecast is basically useless unless a person has a paid movie app. or wants to watch video clips and movie Trailers on YouTube. Have only found two full-length movies on YouTube. And, one of the movies, the sound was terrible. Had to stop watching the movie.

And now, since getting Netflix, we found out that it doesn't have some movies we would really like to watch, such as Grace Quigley, God's Not Dead 2, Walt and Saving Mr. Banks. There are some that we will watch, but doubt we will keep the subscription going for long.

We really thought Netflix had some darn good NEWER movies, but they don't. Wonder, if and or when, they do add more movies to the collection. Netflix has such high ratings/reviews and we really don't know why.

We also found out that Netflix has a prescription DVD area, but it's like $8.99 per month. One thing we quite a bit of and that is movie dvd's!

As a subscriber of several streaming movie channels, I have found that Netflix gives the biggest bang for the money by far. No, they don't have everything that I might want to watch at any given time, but they rotate new movies far more quickly than Amazon.com, and I think they do better than Hulu, but it's hard to tell because I have a hard time finding stuff on Hulu. I do use the Netflix DVD option too, particularly to binge watch older series that aren't available through streaming, but it also increases the variety of available movies.

In order to get the biggest bang for the buck through their DVD option, you have to have a quick turn-around. If a DVD sits around for days before you get around to watching it, you aren't getting a very good deal. My wife does that to me all the time. I'll get something on DVD that she wants to watch, but then she won't get around to watching it for two weeks. I usually turn my DVDs around the same day, so they go back in the next day's mail.

Thanks (a lot) for the reply, Ken. A friend of ours has had both Netflix movie and Netflix DVD (not both at same time though). He likes older movies more than the newer ones, so He really likes his movie Netflix.

We now have the Google Home and I've linked that to our Chromecast. Really weird telling the Home what movie we want to watch and saying "play on tv". If the tv is off, it will automatically come on and the movie will start playing. Our friend told me on the phone, "glad to see you folks are getting more high tech!"

I'm going to let my wife see, on our desktop (our iPhone screen is too small) some of the movies Netflix has. Anyway, we just thought Netflix would have more movies from the last couple of years, but the don't.

Question, Ken (or some else who has Netflix): Are movies ever replaced with other movies?

I know they bring new movies in all the time, but am not sure if they replace ones that were there before or if they are just added to what's there. I'm pretty sure they do replace movies, though. I am not nearly as fancy, @Cody Fousnaugh -- I'm still clicking through things.

I think that you can do this in a couple of ways, @Patsy Faye . One way is like Cody and Ken mentioned, and that it to have one of those television devices like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, or Apple TV. All of these link up your television with your computer or tablet, and then you can see anything that is on your computer on your television screen. We have Apple TV, so we can use that to watch Netflix on the television.
I think that they also make a direct connection that can go from the computer to the TV, or you can use those Wii things to do it with , too.
The devices come as a set-top box and as a small "stick" that connects to the television. The boxes do more and cost more; but the sticks are pretty cheap, and once you buy any of them, you do not have to pay anything to use them.
There are some threads on here about Roku, and several people have those and seem to like them.

We have a set top box so maybe just need the stick
I wouldn't want to watch live though, we record everything ......................

If you have a set-top box, then you should be able to see Netflix on your television. Which one do you have ? We have the Apple set-top box; but it is several years old, so it does not do as many things as the newer boxes can do. For example , it does not have voice command, like @Cody Fousnaugh mentioned that they can use with the Chromecast box. The new Amazon boxes have that, too; but not the fire sticks, although I might be wrong on that and one of the Technoloy Experts here can better answer some of these questions for you than I can.

Its a Goodman 'satellite' receiver box - so not sure that's the right box needed
I wonder if Amazon give info on what is needed to receive Netflix
I know I clicked on it some time ago, but it just gave a list of programmes

I think that is a different kind of box. We have a satellite receiver box, too, and it just gets the regular channels that we pay for with the service.
Here is a short video showing how the little Amazon fire stick looks, and showing what it does. They are about $40 and I think that the Roku is the same price, or close. Most of the boxes do more but cost around $100 or more.
Diane Lane was saying that she got s Slingbox subscription and it came with a free Roku; so that is a possibility, too, maybe ?

@Cody Fousnaugh I have Netflix and watch it every day.

Netflix will notify you of movies that have been added and that they recommend by movies that you have previously watched even if you didn't like the movie or just watched a smidget of it.

From my experience I think all the movies remain in the libraries in case you would like to watch it again. Also I have ventured to watching movies titles that I thought I would not like and enjoyed them.

I watch foreign and independent films, those are my favorite. I think they do keep the movies because I have a whole bunch that I've added to my list more than a year ago and haven't watched yet and they're still there.

I get emails telling me of new releases or new movies added to Netflix. I have so many movies in my list that if I started watching them I'd be on there for a long time.

Agree with @Von Jones , sometimes I'm really surprised at how good a movie was that I thought I wouldn't like.

You do know that Netflix costs, right? It's a monthly subscription that you have to get, entering a credit card. They have two different services: one is movies off of their website/app and the other is dvd's sent to you (like Ken has). Some of the movies we'd like to watch are only on their DVD subscription area, but my wife really doesn't want that. We rather just go to Red Box and rent a movie......if it came down to that. We do now have the Netflix movies on website (computer) and app (iPhone). Unfortunately, the last couple of movies we partly watched, had a lot of fowl language in them. One was Bad Boys II and the other was Meet The Blacks.

I just took a look at those 2 movies you mentioned, @Cody Fousnaugh ...I wouldn't pick either one to watch, not my taste in movies but that's not the point, everybody has different likes and dislikes....my point is both were rated R so you could expect some foul language....
