@Michelle Stevens I saw a beautiful flowering bonsai picture one time, I think it was wisteria. I'd love to someday be in a place (timewise and financially) where I could learn about and grow at least one of them. Good luck with your blog, keep us posted!

    Thanks. I will.

I've never tried growing wisteria. For some reason I haven't had much success with flowering trees so far.

Bonsai doesn't need to be an expensive hobby if you start with small trees or shrubs from a garden centre. I don't like to buy trees that other people have styled as I like them to reflect my personality, but it works out a lot cheaper that way too. And looking after one tree isn't time consuming. It's when you keep propagating new ones like I do that it becomes hard work.

I'll have to do some research before I invest in anything, since my kitties love to eat any greenery in the house. I have one bamboo plant, and they climb up on this tiny shelf just to get a mouthful of it, it's really crazy!

From my conversations with y'all and reading posts here on the forum, I think at least some of y'all would be interested in joining this site (Prolific Academic) to participate in research studies. They pay a little money, and can be informative. This is my personal referral link, but if you don't want to use that, you can click here and sign up. It's UK based, and pays via PayPal. The minimum cash out threshold is $5. If you're in the UK, you can build that up to $20 and not have to pay any PayPal fees. From what I understand if you're outside of the UK, there are minimal PayPal fees even if you let your balance increase to the $20 level. Oh, and if you just enjoy participating but don't want/need the money, you can donate it :).

    Here's a little information about the company/site:

    Research Focused
Prolific Academic was founded in collaboration between academics at Oxford and Sheffield. We're passionate about research, and aim to make it as efficient as possible.

    115822 data submissions and counting...

    How Prolific Works

    Researchers:
Post studies and recruit the right participants fast!

    How it works for researchers:

⓵ Sign up with your academic (preferred) or non-academic email address
⓶ Top up your account (our study cost calculator will help)
⓷ Set up your new study. All you need is a url to your online study
⓸ Choose the participant demographics you want
⓹ When the study is complete, review participants' submissions & we'll handle the rest.
Post a study now. Register a Researcher Account
    Participants:
Earn rewards while helping to advance human knowledge

    How it works for participants:

⓵ Sign up with your university email address or Facebook account
⓶ Answer some prescreening questions to check your eligibility
⓷ Browse through available studies and participate in any studies you fancy.
⓸ Get rewarded for good work.
⓹ Transfer the rewards via PayPal (when you earn at least £5) or donate them to charity.

I have two websites... one provides me a little bit of income from an Affiliate Marketing program (Amazon), and from Google Adsense. A while ago I was a Google Answers Researcher and the income was very nice each month. But, the program closed down.

For a few years I worked for Demand Studios writing, and now I write articles and do some ghostwriting, a bit of proofreading and editing when the opportunity presents itself. At one time I was working from home full-time creating and maintaining websites for people, locally and internationally, but I stopped doing it, as it was more trouble than it was worth. Now and then I'll help on the design for a website or write content if it interests me.

Well I finally signed up for Bing Rewards the other day. I like the uncluttered home page, but still had to do a few Google searches yesterday, when I was looking for something in particular and wasn't getting the results I wanted and needed. I had trouble finding a list of the gift cards available, other than Skype, X-box and Microsoft. Can someone who uses it point me in the direction of a list of available rewards? From what I saw, Starbucks was the only one I'd use, but I've heard in the past that they also offer others, such as Amazon Giftcards.

@Diane Lane, have you signed up with My Points? Lots of choices when it comes to gift cards. On my last redemption I had to increase my points because the choices available were not any that I wanted. Also you get 5 points if you don't qualify for a survey.

When you do a search, you will see your name in the upper right corner of the screen, and just to the left of that will be what looks like a red "award medal", and then to the far left is the amount of points that you have accumulated.
Click on the red award icon, and that takes you to the reward page. Then, click on redeem, and you will see all of the available rewards, and how many points you need to get each one.
Try hard to do all of the little "jobs" you need to do to become a gold member; because once you do that, then you can qualify for rewards with less points.
As an example, the $5 Amazon GC is about 550 points; but once you are gold, then it is only 475 points.
It takes a while to get used to using bing; but I have cashed in a couple gift cards already, so I think that it is worth having it.

I also have My Points, and you always get points for that when you have the BzzAgent membership and do their little surveys.

What kind of little jobs do you mean? Are there tasks other than searches? I was thinking it was like Qmee, where you get points for searching only, but from what you said, it sounds similar to SwagBucks.

@Von Jones I think I might have created a My Points account a long time ago, but I don't really do well with the types of sites where you're paid to click various things, I tend to get overwhelmed and my brain freezes, much like the system overload I sometimes get upon walking into Walmart. I'll have to visit the site and see if it will work for me. I like Ipsos, because it pays the 5 and lets you do the little game at the end for sweepstakes entries, but I don't always enjoy their surveys, because they can be laborious. My favorite survey sites these days are YouGov and PaidViewpoint.

Maybe calling them little jobs was not a good choice of words, @Diane Lane . What it is, they will want you to follow through a set of instructions, or something similar to that. When you look at the page, it says what you need to do to reach the next level (silver, gold), and what you need to do to get there.
I have My Points as well, but they were something that came along with signing up for BzzAgent, and they give you points for taking their little qualification surveys. I do get the surveys from them; but most of the surveys seem to take up time, and then tell you that you don't qualify.
At least the Paid Viewpoint and YouGov surveys don't do that to you.
I also do the Ipso ones, and like sweepstakes that you at least get to do even if you don't qualify for their survey.

@Yvonne Smith Ah, O.k., are you talking about the polls and things of that nature on YouGov, or something on Bing Search? Ha ha I'm getting confused, because we're talking about several different things. I'm brand new to Bing Surveys, and haven't seen other things besides the main page. I guess if I click somewhere on there it will take me to what you're talking about? I thought the initial page where I signed up would give more information about how it works and what the rewards are, but it seemed somewhat difficult to locate the information, and when I did an internet search, it seemed many others were confused about the available rewards, as well. I know there are a certain amount of searches you're allowed per day, or at least that's what I've been told, but I don't recall the number, and probably rarely make that many.

Okay, @Diane Lane , we are now talking about Bing Rewards. Click on the little red medal icon and go to the bing Rewards main page.
You should then be on your Dashboard, and it says, "Redeem, Status, and Help. Go to status. That shouws what you are and what you need to do to get to the next level.
One of the things you have to do is set a goal. I chose the $5 Amazon card. Each little thing that you do gives you points towards the next level. Once you get to gold, you do not need as many points to redeem your gift; so it is worth doing it.
