Here's what they look like. My old friend Charley had 97 of them "needled in". The thought is shivery, to me. This was called "Aladdin's Castle", one of the hundred or so attractions located at Chicago's "Riverview Park". The place had 8 roller coasters, including the world-famous "Bobs". As a kid, I got to go there once a year, my dad hated bucking the traffic getting up to Belmont and Western from our house. Look closely, and a fact emerges I never knew then: This particular attraction was bordered on a residential street; houses may be seen in the area behind it. The famous "barrel roll" was contained in it. When 20 to 30 THOUSAND bikers descend upon a town of 8000 residents (Laughlin, NV), no parking lot is free of their machines! Once yearly, called the "Laughlin River Run", plates from as far as the east coast and Canada are common. Fear it? Nah. Mostly retirees, a few fights break out, but usually, they are a pretty ruly bunch. There has never been a biker gang situation ensuing. They spend a LOT of money needed by the local economy. So it goes in a tourist-oriented Mecca having no other commercial economic "base". Yes, Roadrunners do exist! This guy seemed bent on biting my backside; I called to my wife to try to get a pic. As usual, she succeeded well. The already started rock wall surrounding our patio is visible, evidence of what I meant by calling myself a "stonemason". A summertime desert downpour, caught from within a departing airliner. Obviously very heavy rainfall limited to a fairly small, few miles wide area. This is the sort of thing which boggled my mind during my earliest vacations to the desert area from Chicago. Never in my growing-up years back there had I imagined anything like this could be seen. I believe it was taken upon leaving Las Vegas' McCarron Airport. A summer dust storm about to envelope Phoenix. We saw many during our 20 years there, but never from this perspective. Usually, it was a sudden disappearance of the roadway in front of the car as we drove along. People routinely blindly drive on into these clouds of dust, causing multiple car crashes, as you know, having heard about them on the news.
Frank, you'd better check about the major Biker brawl that happened at the River Run in April 2002. It happened at Harrah's Casino. After seeing your posted picture, I thought I remembered hearing about it and looked it up. Sure enough, the incident did happen.
