Yes, it should be fine. There is only one ad per start up, and that's it. I swipe it out of the way before I even look at it, so it's barely noticeable. I think you can pay the $15 to get rid of it at any time after purchasing it too, but I haven't seen any reason to do that.

That is exactly what mine does, too, @Denise Happyfeet . I wasn't even really sure what that meant when I bought it; but it has never been any kind of an issue. The ad just shows up when you turn on the Kindle, and then you unlock it, the ad is gone, and you forget you even saw an ad.
There is nothing that interferes with reading at all.
Truly, I believe that your sister will love her Kindle, too ! They might be inexpensive, but they seem to last forever. I have had mine several years, and it was used when I got it, and I have never had any kind of issues with it. There are nice little cases and even external keyboards that you can get for the Kindle, too. External keyboards are awesome when you do much typing, and I do not know how I managed with my iPad before I got the keyboard for it. It is just about like having a very lightweight laptop once you have a keyboard. But if your sister doesn't type much, even that is not necessary.

Don't sit on them, though. They don't like that.

Going to be to read now:) Have a brand, new download from my library2go, and my Sunset Cove Series;) ttys, denise

Now that would be upsetting;) I'm glad you got over it (pun intended)

@Denise Happyfeet I thought I'd hate the ads, and wanted one specifically without them, but I bought a used one that came with ads (a Kindle touch) and I'm happy I bought this, because I actually enjoy the ads. They're mostly for books, and sometimes they're ones I'm interested in.

Thanks for this Diane;) I get ads on my windows 10, and it's so easy to turn them off, and they are only on when I start up Windows. I'm glad I didn't opt to pay 15 dollars more. My sis won't mind having and ad or two;) Once your in the book you don't see any anyway. Good to know they send "book" ads, that could be of help. I get ads from places like Goodreads

I use the Amazon store. I have Google Play on my Roku but rarely use it so I haven't seen any reason to put it elsewhere.,

The whole thing is just a "shock" to my system since I was used to the Nook, simple. I learned an important lesson, find one of the devices and see how they work before I buy them, LOL! Duh!!

Denise, Go to the Kindle store and get this free Kindle manual. I think that it is the best one out there, and it explains EVERYTHING that a Kindle Fire does, and how to make it do it.
It is written by Steve Weber, who also has the Kindle Buffet , with lots of free and cheap books to read on a Kindle. Here is the link to his Amazon page, so you can see which manual I am talking about.

    Thank Yvonne,

this "is" really about me being used to one thing, and not being quite willing to change. I could probably learn to like the Fire Tablet. I think the posibilities are really good as described in the following article. That is, if I want to tweak things "more to my liking". Or, what I'm used to. I appreciate the manual and will take a look;) happy new year (if I haven't said that to you yet;) We are having a neat storm, some wind, rain, and even some hail! ttyl, Denise;)

PS Don't forget mine is not a Kindle Fire. They call it a Fire Tablet 7", and the Kindle Fires are way more expensive, and I'm sure the manual has quite a few differences. But I'm going to look, as the link might show me the way to a new, Fire manual as well;)

PSS forgot the link to the article: http://www.howtogeek.com/270382/how-to-make-the-amazon-fire-tablet-more-like-stock-android/

It's the same thing. They are just calling them Fire Tablets now. There are more expensive models, but the one you have was first called a Kindle Fire.
