Does anyone else like this magazine? I used to read it when I lived back home, and could snag my Mom and Dad's copies. I don't have a subscription, but my Mom will occasionally enclose one in a package she sends. I like to keep one or two around to read when I am thinking back and craving simpler times. Although many of the stories are from before my time, reading them and looking at the pictures reminds me of my childhood, when my Grandmother and Aunts and Uncles would be reminiscing with my Parents. http://www.goodolddaysmagazine.com/inthisissue.php
After dad died I had to move in and care for mom. On one afternoon ride we stopped at a flea market. Someone had a large box of "Good old Days" magazines from some years back. I could hardly pry mom away from them, so I bought them and set the box beside her chair. They kept her occupied for hours at a time. I liked looking at some of the old ads reprinted in them. Recently I subscribed, but they are different from the older issues. Still, a good read.
I remember finding one somewhere years ago, and being enthralled by it. I always loved things from the "distant" past, even when I was young. Anyway, I set out to find all the "Good Old Days" magazines I could get my hands on! Unfortunately, I lost all my copies over the years. I wish I still had them. They were much better years ago.
I like the ads, too. I agree, there have been some changes over the years, probably old guard staff retiring and younger ones taking over, and implementing what they thought was better, but I agree, still a good read. I enjoy the stories from people who write in, the recipes, and the pictures.
@Brittany Houser I wonder if your library has copies? They often have magazine and newspaper subscriptions, so you might be able to find them there. @Ken Anderson I'm glad you found it interesting enough to subscribe, hope y'all enjoy reading them.
I just bid on a lot containing all of the 1978 issues on eBay, and on a mixed lot of 25 vintage issues.
I had it for a years subscription but I prefer Reminisce. I have been a subscriber since 2002. It was better when it was family owned because it had no advertising at all. It was entirely written by its subscribers. But the big outfits swallowed it up and now it's full of ads.
I received the first package of vintage magazines. It includes the December 1968 issue and a special Christmas issue from that year; May, August, October and November of 1969; all twelve months of 1970; and January, February, March, May, June, October and November of 1971. The 1978 issues should be coming soon, as I won that bid as well. I haven't received the first issue of my subscription yet, but glancing through the ones that I have, I like it quite a lot.
I enjoyed the delightful featured story, "Daddy vs. the Colonel" I think it's good for our modern day soul and spirit to read and reminisce the good ol' days. I loved it! I'd like to subscribe to the magazine, as a matter of fact! http://www.goodolddaysmagazine.com/featured_story.php Thank you, @Diane Lane
You're welcome, @Avigail David, I'm glad you and @Ken Anderson are enjoying the stories. I was trying to think of the name of the affiliated magazine, I guess it's probably Reminisce, that @Dave Sun mentioned. I haven't read that, have only seen the cover a few times, and even though it's apparently changed, I'm glad there are still a few around geared toward the older crowd.
It looks interesting, I know I saw a few stoies I would like to read when I have more time. I like the old stories without all of the computers and tech that we have today.
I have a Kindle app on my tablet and use it occasionally, but I still prefer to read actual books and magazines. I guess that will fall away once we're all gone, since it seems many of the younger crowd prefer to read electronic versions, but there's just something about holding an actual book or magazine in my hand and being able to turn the pages that I like, rather than just seeing something virtual.
