For over a year now, Bobby has been working on the front deck project. We started out with just ugly concrete steps at the front door, which were really hard for me to get up and down.
So my sweet husband built me a ramp that was easier to use. Then, he added on to the other side of the ramp area and built us a sitting area.
He has been working on this ever since, adding lattice, a water feature off of the front side of the deck, a nice roof with skylights, and then spent most of the summer staining the floor of the deck to his satisfaction.
I imagine that he will still be playing around with more additions to the deck; but this week he finished the floor, and put the wicker deck chairs out on the deck.
I am looking forward to sitting out there with our morning coffee in the cooler fall weather.

That's a cool lanai in the photo. Surely your Bobby has an artistic touch in going native with those handcrafted rattan (or is it bamboo?) chairs. But what I like most is the window. Old houses here, with simple designs, have those big windows that has no screen and the only cover is a wooden sheet or a frame with nipa weavings. And yes, I have noticed the wooden planks on the floor.

That front deck of yours reminds me of the olden days when serenading was in vogue. According to my grandparents, the suitor would arrive after dinner with a guitarist to sing his heart out to his beloved maiden. The suitor outside while the girl would stand by the huge window, that's a romantic scene in those days.

I have to say I really like the lattice to. I have noticed in the decorating magazines and in the garden magazines many more people are going with this sort of look. I like that some houses add the sheer curtains for a romantic effect. Or the sconces on the lattice for a soft evening light. You can use the led lights that are not a fire hazard. I could see you adding an ottoman down the road as your porch looks like a fine spot for a cool drink and the morning paper.

I spend a lot of time sitting out on the porch myself so I am sure that you will really enjoy this. It is sad that my petunias finally gave out from the late heat we are having, but that gives me the excuse to get the fall decorations moving along.

Wow! Your new porch looks like it is from the cover of a magazine. I like the way you framed your picture for us all to see!

The way your Bobby has arranged the various types of stacked lattice is both visually striking and original. The area looks airy, intimate and inviting.

I am sure you all will spend hours out there enjoying yourself, especially with the relaxing waterfall feature. I would imagine that evenings are especially pleasant with sky lights. How lucky you are to have such a handy man!

Uh, ya mean "those" led lights? Hopefully the thumbnail does what it is supposed to do. I installed two different types. One which has a bunch of colors that remain static or blink when it is directed, and the second which strobes with music.
I also installed a misting system to cool things off on those nice hot days. The last thing is to plant directional lighting which will allow the fountain to have a "dancing" effect at night. A theory I haven't tried yet is to "mike" the water so the lights will strobe to the sound of it.

Uh, maybe I can pencil you in for sometime in 2021. When I look in the back I can't see the gazebo nor the bridge over the stream (with live catfish) going to it. Can't seem to see the outdoor fireplace / grill and smoker nor the above ground planters along with the full nursery, and grape lattice. I can however, see the pool but I don't see a deck around it complete with hidden fold-in oak lounge chairs and telescoping tables.
Maybe I will be able to see it better once I have built it.

"Why will it take so you so long?" you might ask. Answer. The government will not give me a grant so I can do everything in a couple of months and social security won't give me an advance.

Do you think that maybe the application for a grant might be best titled: "Psychophysical effects regarding home improvement as a therapeutic agent among the elderly?" Heck, if they give away money for treadmills for shrimp I just might stand a chance. Not.

Wow, congratulations, that looks really cozy and inviting. I can picture sitting out there for a nice cup of tea of coffee, or maybe some iced tea in the Summers. I don't have a roof over my balcony, and sometimes I like that, but most of the time, I'd rather have at least a roll back top, if not have it screened in. Your porch looks like a great place to sit and relax, and read a book in the cooler weather, as well.
