So what's the purpose of that? Are they getting samples of corn from different layers of the container cars for testing?
I am assuming that is what is being done. Checking for infestation, moisture content, and general condition of the product. But then again, what do I know??
Right on Mr. Riley. That probe is used mainly to check for Foreign Material (FM). At the plant, we used an auto probe arm for the grain trucks. I have been on top of many a rail car loading DDG ( distilled dry grain ) during storms and dead of winter. Probably why I no longer do that type of work.
