In grade school, you become popular when you have a good penmanship. Our teacher would encourage us to develop a good style of handwriting so that she would not have a hard time checking the test papers. I grew up with the notepad and that persisted until I got my first job. When the computers came in, the keyboard had replaced most of my writing chores. And now I have been noticing that my handwriting is so poor and sometimes I don't see myself in that handwriting anymore. My good penmanship is gone. Thanks to the keyboard. How about you, is your handwriting affected by the keyboard?
I used to have excellent handwriting until about 2 years ago. It changed all at once and I've noticed other changes too. I'm guessing I must have had a mild stroke or something of the kind. Sometimes my handwriting is still decent but other times it's terrible. I don't think the keyboard had anything to do with it.
I've always had and still do have good penmanship. I get lots of compliments on my handwriting, especially cursive. Remember the paper with the three different line levels in grade school? Just don't give me any thing to sign with no lines on it.
I have pretty decent penmanship when I write slowly, otherwise I can't even decipher it a day later. I learned to type in elementary school. My brother had a typewriter and he showed me how to type. When I took a typing class many years later, I learned that some of my technique was not considered the best (for example, I don't use my little finger for anything but the home keys), but my speed and accuracy were good. I submitted a report in fifth grade that was typewritten, and the teacher refused to accept it, thinking that someone else must have done it for me. Even after I persuaded her that I had done it myself, she insisted that I write my reports out in longhand.
@Ken Anderson, if she accepted your report I hope she gave you a good grade on it as opposed to making an example out of it with one less than you had hoped.
You seem to be an alien to me, hahahaaa. I really got a good laugh with the line that says you can't deciper your handwriting a day later. In fairness to you, it is obvious that you are focused on what you were doing since typing is never heard to a grade schooler here. I learned typing in college although we had a typewriter so my 2 fingers learned at home. And that report in long hand, that is a challenge because you should have shown your teacher how fast you are. That's easy, pulling her down to a chair in front of your table and show your quick hands. i'm sure she would have been convinced that you were the grandson of Billy The Kid.
My handwriting is not affected by the keyword because when I am not at my computer, I have a paper notepad with me when going away or even being around the house. I still do cursive writing for very personal purposes, manuscript otherwise. However I have found myself being lazy to type lengthy texts or series of numbers that I find easier to copy and paste via computer. This is why I try to update manually my paper address book from time to time, even if there are no new numbers to add, but just to keep writing and don't forgetting or suffer from writing-practice loss.
When I was in school I had very good penmanship now I have the worst chicken scratch, some times I can hardly read my own writing. It is really bad if I am writing fast, it gets small and hard to read. The best handwriting in my class was a guy, he always got the prize for his good penmanship.
