I truly need headphones as I just can't keep up with subtitles, and have either lousy speaker in the TV, or it's the movies audio itself. The older movies usually sound better, so I am thinking the latter.

Does anyone, first of all, actually have Roku 2 4210 X2 (which I am gathering that the X2 means 2nd generation of Roku 2). Some forums (tech) are saying yes, that model has headphone Jack. Well mine doesn't.

Outside of buying a new, Roku with headphone jack, does anyone have the know-how to somehow either buy a remote with jack that will work with Roku 2, or, does that empty slot for a USB device, or could it, work with a earbuds or headphones? This last thought is a USB in the box itself, not the remote.

Any help appreciated, need to know more, just ask:) Denise

We have a Roku 2, and headphones would be nice. I have thought about a wireless set that works through bluetooth, but have not followed up on it. The wireless headsets with a mike, used for gaming are very expensive. You may find cheaper ones without the mike, for $30 or more. Like you, I am in the "wondering" stage.

I've found the Remote App in Google Playstore, free one, for my smartphone. I am in the process now of figuring out what settings I need to use my phone as a "bluetooth" device, but not sure that is the deal. I'm still researching. I'll let you know Joe, but from what I've read, it can be done, and you can use earbuds to just plug into your smartphone and listen to Roku 2 movies, etc. bb when I figure it out, if it's doable or not;) Thank you for your reply:) denise

Yeah, it would depend on the device, I reckon. We watch the TV or on the laptops. Good luck, Denise!

I only have a Roku streaming stick, and as far as I know, there's no headphone jack. I use headphones as little as possible anyway, so that didn't bother me when I bought it, as it wasn't a feature I was looking for. The first thing I thought of when I read your post @Denise Happyfeet was a wireless headset, as @Joe Riley mentioned. I'm sure you could find a low cost one, especially if you don't need the microphone. From what I saw the other day, there are 5 new Rokus coming out soon, so if there are any other issues you've been having, maybe it would be time to upgrade, but otherwise, maybe supplementing with a cheap set of wireless headphones would do the trick.

What I did when I first moved in here and realized that the acoustics in the living room are absolutely appalling, was to purchase a sound bar. It does help some, and I'm sure in any other room, would be entirely sufficient, but the downstairs here is like a saltines box, with one wall, a half wall, and a staircase on one end, and the sound bounces all over. Maybe you could try a sound bar if you don't want something on your head, or otherwise, the headset/phones would probably do fine.

@Diane Lane - What exactly is a sound bar? How is it hooked up?

Hi @Joe Riley A sound bar is literally a bar shaped speaker that you place in front of your television (or elsewhere, I guess...I have mine in front of my TV), and it comes with a subwoofer (or at least mine did), and a remote. It hooks into your TV (mine also hooks into the cable box and blu-ray player), and you can set the television to play via your TV speakers or through the sound bar. I'm attaching a picture of an actual bar. They vary a lot in price. I have a Sony one, and my ex has a Phillips, and they both work well. You can buy them pretty much anywhere that sells electronics. Walmart has some, Best Buy of course has them, TigerDirect has them for sale sometimes, etc., sound bar.jpeg

A lot of TVs don't have the best sounding speakers, and the subwoofer gives it a bit of oomph that helps with the acoustics. Oh, also there are some wireless ones, and I think my ex's is wireless. Mine's wired, and I sometimes get confused with how everything's wired, so I'd always recommend wireless if possible. He's also able to hook his phone, and I believe his computers into the sound bar, since it's wireless.

You're welcome, @Joe Riley, as I mentioned, they vary a lot in price, but the ex got his at a steal when his local Radio Shack was closing. If you decide to get one, just read the online reviews to make sure you get a good one. I tend to stick with Sony, Samsung and other major brands, since I know less about electronics, but I saw a low cost one from Dell recently, and I would probably buy that if I needed another one.
