12 year old Grace VanderWall, singer/ukulele player won AGT last night. We've been watching this show since Terry Fator/Ventriloquist won in 2008. The show gets some amazing talent, like Grace, as well as some real "weird ones" like Tape Face and others. Grace was Howie Mandel's "Golden Buzzer" choice. For those that don't know, the "Golden Buzzer" is located on the judges table/front/center. When hit, lots of golden confetti drops from the ceiling honoring the contestant who is put straight thru to the live shows in Hollywood. That person doesn't have to keep returning to get put thru by the judges.

So, what is this cute 12 yr. old going to do with the 1 million (or equivalent to the current market) prize money? She going to order herself the most outrageous Treehouse w/ropes/swings and donate some to her favorite music charity. Unlike Terry Fator, and some others, she won't be using her money to have a Show in Las Vegas. However, she will be appearing at Planet Hollywood in Vegas,

AGT Executive Producer, Simon Cowell, called Grace "the next Taylor Swift" after her first audition. Quite the compliment!

Both of us, wife and I, got up out of our recliners and applauded Grace when she won. It was so, so cool!

Wow.........nobody watches this show? Actually, I think she is the youngest winner of this show. That's something in itself!

    @Cody Fousnaugh
Sorry, Cody, I don't watch T-V at all. But I know how disappointing it is, at the same time, when I get hepped-up about some event or topic, post it, and get ho-hums.....

I don't watch tv either; but @Bobby Cole watches the talent shows all of the time, so maybe he wil have a comment for you , @Cody Fousnaugh .
I agree with Frank about we all get disappointed about posting something that we think is the greatest thing since split pea soup, and then no one else cares, or comments, or even worse, they make fun of you for it.
We are all different here, so hopefully, at least some people will have similar interests on most topics. Obviously, we have some threads that go on for pages; so I think we do pretty good.
Sometimes, there are threads that we just have no knowledge about, and don't know what to say, and that's alright, too. Or threads that we stay out of on purpose. I have some of those.

Actually, I was really going for either Crum or the young opera singer but leaned toward B.J. Crum. The problem I had with Grace V. is that I could barely understand her but I do recognize the fact that my hearing lacks the ability to hear certain frequencies.
She is cute and has a great personality but again, beyond the music part I couldn't understand the words.

My favorite show starts next Monday. The Voice! I'm not sure how well I am going to take it this year though because Miley Sirus is one of the two new coaches and frankly I think she's the worse thing to hit the stage but obviously I might be in the minority.

Sort of funny, but our niece, and her husband, don't watch tv and they don't allow their 13 year old daughter to watch it either. It's got something to do with their Christian belief or whatever. We are both Christians and couldn't go without our tv. Wife will sometimes have it on for "sound", because it can be too quiet and she wasn't raised around quietness when she was young. As for me, I watched very little tv, except when I spent a weekend with my cousins. My cousins parents were much more liberal than my step-parents. I do remember watching way too much of the Lawrence Welk Show that my step-parents loved.

Our favorite singing competition was American Idol.

As for as the last AGT goes:
The Black singers (Linkin Bridge) would be great singing gospel and we think that's where they will end up........doing concerts in churches.
Perhaps the opera singer will get with Jackie Evancho (a previous Runner-Up AGT winner).
There were some other good acts, but America just didn't want them.

My wife and I know a couple who married during their middle age and she didn't watch TV and he didn't believe in having a computer. Somewhere along the way they decided it wasn't a sin to have one of each as long as one is careful about what is watched.
That said, there are also Christians who believe that it is sinful to enjoy a glass of wine or whatever but there is nothing Biblically sound about drinking being a sin. As for me, I do not drink but as long as a person is careful about staying away from those things listed as debauchery or sinful thinking then I see no problem with it.

As far as the talent shows I also like plugging into YouTube and watching the X factor and Britains Got Talent. Some really scary folks show up and totally amaze me when they start singing or whatever. Jonathan and Charlotte are of note. A 17 year old boy and girl show up, the boy weighing in at around 300 and the girl a pretty but skinny girl, looking like nothing good is about to happen. Even Simon was recorded as saying, "oh boy, here comes another one. " When they started singing "the Prayer" they totally blew me and the audience away! That was about 2013-14 or something and they eventually won.

The one I definitely DID NOT like was tape face. Dunno, it might be just me because I really didn't see much talent there except for the ability to bulge his eyes but obviously I am in the minority once again.

I watch AGT when I get the chance. A friend told me about Calysta Bevier who hails from Grand Rapids, Ohio which is another small town across the Maumee River from Waterville, Ohio where I grew up. I got up and cheered like you and your wife with 12 Yr. old Grace. The whole performance can be seen on Youtube. Her winnings are going to the kids at the hospital. Calysta is only 16 yrs. old and survived stage 3 ovarian cancer. She sings, Rachel Platten's Fight Song. :) 160623105812-calysta-bevier-exlarge-169.jpg

Grace Vanderwal really charmed a lot of people apparently. I think Justin Crum really deserved it more, but America likes who they like. I just hope Grace can handle the stress of having a big show in Las Vegas. I mean it certiainly will be life changing for her. SImon Cowell billed her as the next Taylor Swift. We will see it seems like the winners of lots of those talent shows end up fading into obscurity. She seems like a sweet kid, I hope it all works out for her.

Doesn't appear that she will have her own Show in Las Vegas, like Terry Fator did. However, she will Headline a show there for AGT. She is investing her winnings into other things, like the outrageous Treehouse she wants and the donation to her favorite music charity. 12 years old is much too young to have their own show in Vegas. Most likely, Grace will be invited (paid?) to sing for other things in the U.S.

We have our own version here which is called Pilipinas Got Talent. And since it is a franchise, the mechanics and everything are all the same with what you have there. We used to watch the earlier editions but we got bored because it seems like to be the same performance all the time. And worse, the winner would always be either a singer or a dancer. I haven't heard of that show anymore maybe due to lack of sponsors since the local tv networks are too dynamic for their own good, shows are replaced all the time depending on the rating it gets from the survey firms.
