Yesterday I was preparing to go to the flea market. I was gathering everything that I needed and reached for my cell phone and turned in on and it didn't power up. Okay, I remembered that I had ordered phone batteries so I removed the back, took out the battery and reached for the package that had the phone batteries in it. Oh no, the wrong batteries! Why I had ordered batteries for a flip phone that wasn't working I have no idea. Any way I thought what the heck I still have the phone let's see what happens. Well it worked after 3 years! This flip phone was dunked into a cup of grape drink by my then 2 year old granddaughter who is autistic. I had tried everything to get it working again. Rinsing with cold water and letting it air dry, replacing the battery what ever I could think of I tried it and it just wouldn't power up and stay on so I stuffed it in a drawer.

I guess I kept it with hopes that it would work again. It is the second cell phone that I purchased at the flea market several years ago for $10. It was my 'deal of the day' then. I probably have the old cell phone around here somewhere but it doesn't have a camera or internet capabilities.

So now I have two phones, a smartphone and one that is not so smart.

You are like my husband who now has 2 phones - 1 smart and the other not smart. But he still uses the not smart for his communications, saying it is easier to text with his old Nokia than the smart Samsung. Well, that Samsung was actually my phone before and I gave it to him when I bought a new Samsung. And I agree that I need 2 hands to text in my smart phone while he can text on the Nokia with one hand only. He uses the smart phone for his internet access because that not smart has no facility for internet.

Storing a wet phone in a container of rice will help draw out the moisture.

I tried that method too. Two things though. (1) I didn't know if the container needed to be covered for it to work and (2) I only gave it 24 hours before I got irrated that the phone still wasn't working and I had no way to communicate.:(

We got a letter from AT&T saying our system was being upgraded and my wife's 2g phone wouldn't work after this year. They said take the letter to an AT&T store and they would give her a new phone. So yesterday I took the letter and her phone and got the new phone. They looked at my phone too and said it was 3g so it was okay.

    I don't need or want a phone that's smarter than I am.

I kept my old first phone for ages because I loved the case I had on it. The case wouldn't fit on a modern phone, of course, and I ultimately got rid of it, but I loved how pretty the case was. I have a plain Jane case on the phone I'm currently using, but I'll eventually get a pretty one. When I ordered this case, I was more concerned about cost and protection. I don't keep a back up phone, I sell them.
