Over 'recent' years we have had too many of these - you don't realise they are happening elsewhere too
I grew up with the idea of quicksand but not sinkholes. I only learned of sinkholes in the news and just in the recent years. In one province, there emerged a sinkhole for no reason at all that it ate some houses. Upon investigation by the staff in the department of environment and natural resources, the big hole was declared to be a sinkhole. But they cannot explain the reason for such. One local scientist had a theory that an underground river had gone dry hence a sort of vacuum or space is created that when the soil went soft (maybe due to the rains) the soil goes down to the space underneath.

Sinkholes do have the potential to swallow cars and even houses. These are the things that people need to understand about these pheomenon, as the video so clearly illustrates. It is just one of the things that you need to try to guard against, especially if you live in certain areas where they are prevalent. They tend to have lot of them in Florida...that I know..but I don't think any place is immune to them actually.
To put these spectacles into a biblical context is, to me, rather unscientific. Something is definitely going on, yes, but why, historically, did it take several thousand years to become relevant, after biblical portrayal? I personally agree that faults and fissures in the Earth's crust can crumble and break. But, I find it very hard to agree with the Earth's rotational speed changing materially. If it did, ALL clocks worldwide would become "wrong", depending upon rate of change. Seasons would begin reversing themselves in time, happening sooner or later. AFAIK, the seasons have adhered pretty closely to Mar. 21, Jun 21, Sep 21, and Dec 21 for hundreds of years, perhaps hundreds of centuries. That means the Earth's rotational speed has NOT CHANGED. That's how I see it. If I'm wrong, well................then I'm wrong! Frank
