I shop at local stores, but I love to go to bigger towns that have more shopping available like Aldi's and Kroger for nstance. It is always fun to get a bargain, and it also fun to compare prices on different things, so you know if you are getting a bargain or not. Our local store (Food LIon) tends to charge more for most items than stores in the larger areas where there is more competition, so when I go to the city I always try to stock up as much as possible because it is usually less.
The low price winner here is called 99-Cent Store. They are far better than Dollar Tree or Family Dollar or Dollar General. 99-Cent has produce, which those others do not. For example, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli, other big-head vegetables are 99 cents apiece. Stuff like peaches, plums, are usually 3 lbs. per 99 cents. All good quality. The place is quite large, fairly wide selection of household, home goods, but no furniture or clothing. Maybe stuff like socks, not certain. We first saw this store in Kingman, AZ, when my wife had to see the clinic there for medical care. We were quite impressed, but unfortunately, Kingman is 35 miles one-way. Lo and behold it was announced about a year and a half ago, they were opening one in Bullhead City, only 4 miles from our home! We frequent it quite often, perhaps every two weeks. Do not know where-all else they may have stores, but know there are none around my wife's kin in N. Indiana. Frank
Yes, I agree...we have a huge 99 cent store here. When I first moved here, I went a lot but now I don't think I've gone in years. It's outside of my 3 mile radius , lol. I think it's about 5-6 miles from my house.
You are right @Chrissy Page about Costco being the King when it comes to taking back items. I find you can return almost anything there as long as it came from there in the first place. No questions are asked. Their policy is so liberal, I wonder how they can afford to continue it. Oh in the above discussion...I can't remember the price of eggs at Aldi's but at Super Value Green Valley eggs were .59 + 10 percent.
Wow, that is great Frank. I guess they are getting produce directly from the fields which allows them to sell it at such reduced prices. I will have to look for one of those stores when I go out West again. I think Bullhead City isn't far from Las Vegas, if I remember right, however, the produce probably wouldn't last for the trip home. Maybe, I would have to bring along a cooler!
The worst place for returns or refunds I think is Target, or it used to be since I haven't been there in awhile. You better have your receipt and think they only gave you a certain number of days. The couple times I returned something it was always a hassle.
There are 99-cent stores here as well, but none very close to my home. I would visit some different variety type discount stores when I lived up in Houston, but never found one I really cared for. The closest that I somewhat enjoy is Dollar Tree. I have a Family Dollar closer, but I don't like that the prices are all over the map. I enjoy knowing when I shop at Dollar Tree that everything is indeed one dollar, and I can simply count my items and know how much I'll be spending. I have some mugs that I bought years ago at the closest 99-cent store, and when my car's in better shape, I'll probably go back there.
Nothing is more than a dollar at my dollar store or more than 99 cents at the 99 cent store, sometimes things will be 2 or 3 for a dollar though.
@K E Gordon I would be surprised if there is no 99-Cent store in Vegas. The first we ever heard of is in Kingman (AZ), about the same distance from Vegas as is Bullhead City. 115 miles from McCarron Airport will get you to either place, but BHC is far more likable due to the Colorado River's presence!
